EDMOND, Okla. (KOKH)

— Oklahoma's Secretary of State, Benjamin Lepak, was arrested by Edmond Police on Friday.

Lepak was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.

According to a police report, an officer found Lepak standing at the drive-through window of McDonald's shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday.

Officers said Lepak had "extremely slurred speech" and could "smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath."

According to the police report, officers asked Lepak what he had been doing. Lepak responded, saying he went to church earlier.

Officers then asked Lepak how much he had to drink. Lepak responded, saying he had nothing to drink.

According to the report, Lepak said he wasn't unsteady on his feet and "again mentioned he was at church with other dads having a gathering."

EPD officers continued to question Lepak, who said his kids just went to a new school and then told officers he had been healthy this week and was avoiding unhealthy food but wanted McDonald's.

Officers claim Lepak was unable to "maintain a coherent train of thought as he spoke about the gathering, his kids at school, and his eating habits."

Lepak allegedly told officers he "got McDonald's, cause this is my night to have McDonald's."

The police report states Lepak volunteered to get an Uber and later told officers he had a beer.

Lepak then backtracked and stated he didn't finish the beer, according to the police report.

Police also noted Lepak drove to the McDonald's, but Lepak later claimed he did not drive to the location, despite his car being parked in the parking lot.

A spokesperson for the Secretary of State's Office released a statement saying:

Mr. Lepak was waiting outside McDonald's for dinner. He was not given a breathalyzer test. Mr. Lepak will address the ticket appropriately through the legal process.

Lepak was appointed acting Secretary of State by Governor Kevin Stitt in 2025. He assumed the role permanently earlier this year.

Before that, Lepak had served as the Governor's general counsel.

There is an Oklahoma law that states public intoxication is grounds for impeachment.

But don't worry for LePac, Oklahoma's Republican Oligarchy will protect him.

It’s not his first arrest for this either. Dude is a drunk.

BTW, Lepac is in charge of Oklahoma elections. 😂

Oklahoma is a very corrupt state.

😂

Knew the body cam footage was going to be good.

So far, the Secretary of State for Oklahoma will not resign. Talk of charging him with a DUI, he had a prior DUI back in 2021.

The Republican governor, no where I can find, asked for Lepac's resignation.

Ah the Israeli militia for 'Christ'. How about he tries to take government back first. I suppose the siege of the last Christian town in the West Bank doesn't interest him, the very place where Christ walked;

Super PACs pour money into state primaries ahead of midterms

August 18, 20264:39 AM ET

Money continues to pour into primaries, including Alaska where Super PACs have spent more than $2 million to help their preferred candidate by trying to game the state's unique voting system.

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:

The race for a U.S. Senate seat in Alaska is drawing a lot of money from thousands of miles away - from the Lower 48, as they say. That's because it's one of the seats that could determine which party controls the U.S. Senate after the midterms.

PFEIFFER: Joining us now is Alaska Public Media correspondent Liz Ruskin. Hi, Liz.

LIZ RUSKIN, BYLINE: Hello.

PFEIFFER: Liz, this Alaska U.S. Senate race is considered a toss-up. It's a nonpartisan race. That means the top four candidates of any party are going ahead to November. Who's running in this one?

RUSKIN: So the two big candidates are the incumbent Republican, Dan Sullivan, and his main challenger is Democrat Mary Peltola. She's a former House member, first Alaska native person elected to Congress. There's a wildcard in this. We've got a second Dan Sullivan.

PFEIFFER: Two Dan Sullivans.

RUSKIN: Yeah (laughter). His full name is Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. He's a retired teacher from Petersburg, Alaska. Republicans tried to keep him off the ballot, saying this was a trick, but Sullivan, the challenger, says he's just tired of a guy with his same name providing representation that he doesn't like, and he wants to provide an alternative. He is on the ballot with no party affiliation.

Political dirty tricks upend midterm races across the country

Democratic dropouts: Senate Democratic candidates in Nebraska, Idaho, and South Dakota have dropped out at the last minute in an effort to bolster the chances of independent candidates to oust Republicans.

  • Legal challenges are ongoing, however.
  • There have been rumors that Montana Democratic candidate Alani Bankhead would bow out to clear the way for Independent Seth Bodnar, though she has made clear she intends to run.
11th-hour switcheroos: Rep. Chuy García (D-Ill.) and Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) both drew criticism for dropping their reelection bids just before the deadline to file to run for their seats to ensure their chosen successors would not face primary opposition.

  • García's machine-style maneuvering to help his chief of staff, Patty Garcia, be the sole Democratic candidate in his heavily Democratic district led the House to rebuke him in a bipartisan vote in November.

Daines announced his retirement in March five minutes after U.S. attorney for Montana Kurt Alme filed to run for the seat — and three minutes before the filing window closed.

Primary meddling: Federal Election Commission filings in June revealed that Republicans were behind a series of "pop-up" super PACs with names like "Lead Left PAC," "Real Change PAC" and "Progressive Champions PAC."

The groups spent on ads boosting left-wing or scandal-tarnished Democratic primary candidates in key battleground districts across the country — with mixed results.

Playing in the other party's primaries is not a new tactic, but it is becoming far more common.

AIPAC: The pro-Israel group AIPAC, whose brand has become reviled by Democratic primary voters, also tried to boost candidates through obscure super PACs.

In Illinois, AIPAC boosted its preferred House candidate through groups called "Chicago Progressive Partnership," "Elect Chicago Women" and "Affordable Chicago Now."

They have also used PACs affiliated with House Democratic groups such as the Democratic Women's Caucus and Congressional Hispanic Caucus as conduits in other races.
