There is no fixed rule for how many jets to be in a squadron. It could be anything from 10 to 12 to 16 to 18 to 24.





All 20 jets will be combat capable.

They make two squadron of 10 aircrafts each.

1 to replace an older squadron.

Another one will be brand new squadron.

Typically BAF squadrons consist of 16 jets. F-7s and Yak-130. JL-8 these were all 16 aircraft squadron. Though some of them has crashed reducing the number.

Which is why 32 units would've made more sense. In fact I am in favour of getting 100 or so.

16 jets in operation. 4 Additional units to fasten the OCU Training, since being an completely different aircraft platform, demand for OCU will be higher.

16 in peacetime, 18 at high alert levels.

20 jets will do fvck all in a war. What's the availability rate? Even one of the most reliable aircraft, the F-16 has an availability rate of 50-60%. So at any given time even a 80% availability rate will yield only 16 aircraft, what kind of sortie rate can we generate with that number and how many days can we hold? 20 is a piss poor cheapskate number, should be 100-150, despite the cost issue, reality remains a reality.

"Bangladesh will have to increase the purchase of military equipment from the US while reducing purchases from other countries (Section 6, Annex III)."

Why the trade agreement with the US is problematic

No other South Asian country that has been subjected to reciprocal tariffs has signed such an agreement with the US so far.

Doesn't Bangladesh's trade deal with the US signed by the Yunus government include a provision that Bangladesh will buy more defence equipment from the US and stop buying from China ?

Let us see if the US will count Biman planes as defense equipment if Bangladesh actually signs a contract to buy J-10s. I will believe it when I see it.

Dude, read the section of the deal you cited again. It is indefinite language. Increasing defense purchase form USA and reducing (not stopping) from other certain actors is relative in amount.

BD could still go for Western options (will likely) for ships and submarines. US ambassador actually talks about the fact US capabilities might not always be suited for the need of country like Bangladesh. So they intend to offer/persue Bangladesh to buy allied options in such case.

Also, sections of the deal itself is amendable according the deal itself.

And new government might amend some sections upon negotiation.

Sure, but I don't think they will consider J-10s to be an allied option. The "certain countries " reference is mainly to China, Russia, North Korea and Iran.
