Russia Defense .net forum shut down by hosting company

Kal El and Arrow, thank you both for the welcome.

P.S. my username is just the name and patronymic (a sort of second name made by the father's name followed by a specific ending (ovic/evic for male and ovna/evna for female)) of the protagonist of Dostoyevsky's novel Crime and Punishment, Rodion Romanovic Raskolnikov

It’s a shame that all that relevant data from the forum has been deleted. There was a lot of good discussion on the RDF that could have been saved.
It’s a great shame. The Forumotion admin ruined everything, too. The forum used to bring together users who contributed substantive, high-quality content. I doubt Garry can salvage anything; without the forum archive and a way to reach the users, nothing can be recovered. It’s hard to believe that just two people managed to destroy thousands of fascinating discussions—effectively wiping out the best forum of its kind on the internet, one that had existed for 15 years. So much is happening right now, yet there’s nowhere left to even have a proper discussion. I don’t mean to offend anyone, but there is a vast gulf between RDF and PDF when it comes to threads about Russia and the war in Ukraine.

Welcome to all new members from other platforms. Let us know if we can do more to accommodate you on here............

Thanks for your sincere intentions, but unfortunately, we don’t have contact details for the rest of the RDF participants, so there’s no way to get them to join.

A psychopath cherry picked every bad word or indiscretion written on a 15 year old forum and reported it to the hosting service until the hosting service shut the forum down.
Bingo, I'd give that man a cigar except its bad for peoples health

I don't want to discuss the situation in public anymore.
Of course you don't. You don't want other forum members knowing what you did and how many people you harmed.

If you had kept quiet and not gloated publically regarding how it was you that stabbed the RDF community in the back and robbed us of our little safe-space, then you would have gotten away with what you did and the matter would have not been an issue. Like most self-righteous moral woke-warriors however you just couldn't resist adding your insult to our injury.

Karma won't be denied.

Nawet nie zaczynam mówić o Biggazzie. Ten administrator Forumotion to też totalny psychopata.

The worst part, Biggazza, is that there isn't really an alternative to RDF :(

Hi Kal-el,

Basically there were some posts by some users that were not acceptable (the one mentioned by user "Zhuge Liang") because of hate speech or similar.

Possibly he raised the issue with the mod/admin who warned said users and asked them to moderate their tones, but in some occasions they continued.

For personal attacks against each other some of the users were temporarily banned, but apart from that the admin tried to avoid being too strong on the penalties (the only user I remember was perma banned was one that was temporarily banned and after coming back he started again with personal attacks and insults against other users and the admin/mod).

User Zhuge Liang (who, in the Russia defence forum I believe had the user ID "Walter Von Odenburg") could have also raised the issue in a new topic and communicated that he would have needed to report the violation in case of lack of action, instead of just doing that.

Then a few months ago Walther Von Odenburg reported many of the posts he perceived as a violation to the hosting provider, than changed his user ID to "Marshal Rokossovsky" and continued to post for a while.

For a while he seemed also reasonable and continued in some of the conversation, then a few days before the forum was cancelled, he cancelled his account (so his posts also disappeared from the forum, and he could not be hold accountable for his answers).

I agree that some of the posts he reported as a violation were not acceptable, but I believe there should have been a better way to solve the situation instead of destroying the forum.

Possibly the Admin should have been more strict with some of the outburst of some of the problematic users, but he was also overwhelmed (there was another mod, but was not active in the last few months, and before the forum was cancelled there were discussions to nominate an additional moderator to help the admin).

Furthermore it felt almost absurd that after the original reports a few months ago he stayed in the forum and engaged in conversation and then from a day to the other cancelled everything as if to destroy evidences of his own answers.

Honestly I also do not feel comfortable to engage in further conversations with user Zhuge Liang/Marshall Rokossovsky/Walther Von Odenburg.

P.S.
It is a pity because the forum was around for a long time (and myself I was a user for almost 11 years), and the original founder/admin was a former Russian special forces officer who got a degenerative disease a few years ago, when he transferred control to the new admin.

P.P.S.
It is my first post in this forum, are there rules about introducing ourselves in a specific thread?
How come we haven't heard from GarryB or George ? I made this post as soon as it happened so that anyone searching online could find it.

You are welcome to improve the Russia Ukraine threads here if you want. Your insights could be valuable as majority of this forum's members are not from those countries and hence entirely dependent on media/third parties telling us what is going on.
