Is India Heading For A Food Crisis?

That's because India's TFR has fallen below 1.9 (probably around 1.6 now). The younger generation is very tall, with a height of 6 feet being normal among teenagers. However, because fewer babies are being born and the number of older people is increasing, the average height appears to be lower than it was in the past.

This is also temporary. You will see a sudden jump in India's average height once the older generations pass away and the younger generation grows older.

I frequently come across kids above 5feet 10 inches which was very uncommon when I was young

The super el nino definitely will have huge impact on not just food supplies in India (terrible malnourishment already scary to think of it getting worse) but also negatively affect the GDP.

India should have become an industrialised country rather then an agricultural country that depends on rain to water their crops. This is truly 4th world sub saharan level situation

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) uses a specific term for analyzing national food supplies: "food availability per capita."

Tier 1: Extremely high availability (> 1,000 kg per capita/year)
Typical examples: The United States, Canada, Australia, etc.
Note: This category also includes countries that divert a portion of their food supply toward the production of biofuels.

Tier 2: High availability / High level of food security (500–1,000 kg per capita/year)
Typical examples: China, EU nations (such as France and Germany), Japan, South Korea, etc.

Tier 3: Moderate availability / Tight balance (300–500 kg per capita/year)

Tier 4: Severe insufficiency / Crisis-affected regions (< 300 kg per capita/year)

According to FAO statistics, India’s food production/availability per capita is approximately 230–260 kg.

Do you grasp the implication?

India’s food crisis is not merely looming—the country has, in fact, been in a state of food crisis all along.

The difference is that your government and religious institutions have consistently urged and called upon you to eat less and to consume food of poorer quality, while using spiritual indoctrination to keep you feeling content. Consequently, you do not perceive India as having a food crisis.

I am a good trooper. I admit I eat less. Liver/gallblader..the whole works. I have been facing "food crisis" imposed by my doctor.

6 feet is all too common now. In my generation, I was "tall" and I am just 180 cm. Now kids in 10th grade start topping me. Ofcourse this is anecdotal evidence. Perhaps same is not happening in poorer states like UP or Bihar.

Shocking and alarming indeed. The map shows entire South Asia. Very worrisome.

Super el nino and lack of fertiliser will affect south east asia and south asia the most. Pakistan got a lot of fertiliser from China and China has massive stockpiles of grain which if required will go to Pakistan however the other countries won't fare as well.

So generous. We can relax a bit now.

I will worry next year.. We had record rain last year. We are mostly okay this year.

You have enough grain storage at 145million tonnes to last a few months so good luck as no one wants to see people starve more than before

FeatureChinaIndia
Total Standard CapacityExceeds 730 million tonnesApprox. 145 million tonnes
Storage SufficiencyLarge surplus (capacity comfortably covers annual yields)~47% capacity shortfall relative to total production
Post-Harvest Loss Rate~14% (due to varying supply chain issues)Up to 25% (driven by exposure and poor climate control)
Technological StandardSmart warehouses, low-temp storage, inflatable air-supported silosPredominantly traditional, outdated warehouses and open-cap storage
Current Major InitiativeExpanding digital monitoring and advanced climate-controlled units$15 billion mega-plan to add 70 million tonnes of capacity

This is not my own description.
You can check the original post on the Weibo account of the Embassy of Pakistan in China. You can see it clearly in the video attached to that post. The Chinese text above the main entrance of the restaurant indeed reads "印巴阿拉伯餐厅." The Pakistani Ambassador to China personally officiated the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the restaurant's opening, and the owner is Pakistani.

* In fact, I have criticized the Pakistani Embassy in China on this forum multiple times. Their actions fall completely short of their responsibilities—and that, of course, includes the ambassador himself.

If the upper echelons of the Pakistani government wish to further strengthen China-Pakistan relations, then taking action to overhaul the Pakistani Embassy in China is imperative! I do not wish to interfere in Pakistan’s internal affairs. However, the current actions of the Pakistani Embassy in China are not strengthening China-Pakistan relations; on the contrary, they are causing the two sides to drift further apart.
Disappointing to hear this. Basic situational competence should be the minimum requirement for our embassy officials.

The decision was, mercifully, reversed after an "outcry".

Parents have to scream just to get EGGS on their kids' school menu.

Effing EGGS, the cheapest source of protein available (taking preparation into account).

And there's no crisis apparently, saar!

I sometimes watch a 'Chinese Historian' channel on You Tube. I think he moved from Canada to Chinese not long ago and can be quite explicit about sexual and racial relations. His advice to the 'Asians' was to get away from the tofu or other vegetarian dishes and start eating meat and in just 2-3 generations the men would be taller and more muscular.
About India's food crisis: I don't know what's going on there but IIRC, India used to have Africa like famines in the 70s. Indian economy was pretty bad until they started the liberalization around 1990 and for which they are bearing the fruit. Africa's famines were horrible. I think Ethiopia had them and maybe some other sub Saharan countries. Glad those days are long gone globally.
