US Perspective on the Iran - Israel / US War

You'll be fine, i don't understand the logic of people hoarding guns, MRE's, survival stuff... specially in USA which has a strong Law enforcement agencies from homeland security to FBI, local police, to national guard. If people have so much extra money to waste on survival gear why not put that money to better use? give it to charity or invest on your kids future?
Take it from someone who has been deployed to disaster zones inside and outside of Pakistan, this "you will be fine" attitude usually bites you on your backside.

You wouldn't go on a long road trip without vehicle checks and making sure you have a spare tire or runflats and enough gas to get your from A to B.

Relying on the state for your every need never clicked with me... Imagine a day when you desperately need emergency services and dial 911 and no one answers...

What do you do? This does happen and may happen to you at some point.

It's the same frustration I used feel when I started teaching CPR to communities in Pakistan all those years ago, and people would say " we will never need this"... 🫠 "Death is written by Allah".

Okay my friend in that case, just find the highest bridge and jump off it since you know... It's not written so it wont come to pass. 🤣

2003 North East Power Outage

Entire grid was down in Detroit for four days during a heat wave. At the time I was living in Detroit. Of course I bugged out ASAP.

Stayed with family in an air conditioned home, watching TV news on when I can go back.

Drove the side streets, beating the majority of people out of Detroit taking their usual route home.

One thing I did notice - no police anywhere. First thing they did was run home to take care of their families first.

Good, but imagine you can put a lot more towards your kids/grandkids/health/vacation if you don't waste all that money towards guns/ammo and other stuff.

You know since i moved here and I have this question to many Americans who hoard guns, give me 1 realistic scenario where you would need to bunker down and take guard with your guns, societies don't collpase easily in high tech strict societies where every move is either monitored or police/help is minutes away from you dialing 911.
You mention societal breakdown, but what will cause it? or what makes you think that Govt will just be like, yeah aight!!! we are done!!! I don't think govt works like that, I grow up in Pakistan and we hear this every Friday that next Friday will be Pakistan's last, any Pakistani will tell you... but Govt's whether puppet Political parties or dictators but societies don't just collpase.

Again, societies don't collpase like this, not even in poor civil war ridden 3rd world countries, its a slow decline when a lot of people just either leave or stay at home, no one is stupid enough to poke out their gun to open fire at the mob if the so called societal collapse actually happen, in fact i believe that people who does have a lot of guns and believe that one day the society will collapse they often times suffering from severe mental illness end up shooting a shopping mall, school or some random place (not talking about you specifically), or but even if Govt somehow turns evil (according to your standard) no matter how much you arm yourself you will be taken out, and if govt/agencies think you are a threat then trust me and you should know this better that you won't be able to make it your gun safe to shoot back, FBI/SWAT/Police/Govt LEA's are just way to powerful and well armed. I had this same conversation with my ex-father in law who had a massive gun safe, and he was preparing himself for some evil democratic govt who will come for his guns, and XYZ. But truth is that none of if will matter if there is no collapse, America is a very carefully constructed and controlled country, you can have a lot of crazy rightwingers or free militia but FBI and homeland keeps a very keen eye on them, lots of documentaries are made on how FBI infiltrated milita to prevent a mass shooting or mass unrest.

Its not my money so you can spend on whatever you like or even burn it :) but I believe that people who hoard weapons/ammo and MRE's and other stuff in hope that someday they will use it to protect someone or somebody, or get to play some hero like they show in movies, 99.9% of the times people who hoard them die with old age in a hospital and all that stuff either goes to their kids or ended up in pawn shops when widow's can't afford bills.
Trying to bait me is not a good idea. Trollers will get a time out.

So, to remain on topic; with the recent alerts by US DOW, the UK, Japan, and a few other places, appropriate discussions around prepping are fine in this thread. As long as it remains relevant.

There is plenty of knowledge to be shared by people who are knowledgeable.

The fact that the War Department even announced that should be waking people up in the US.

Bhai, I have lived a good amount of my life in Karachi, even in 1992 when MQM operation was at peak, i don't see people taking their guns out to fight police or MQM goons. And here we are talking about America, you post a wrong status on FB and next 2 days you will be greeted by Police at your doorstep, this is not Afghanistan or Congo... even in Pakistan the society is no collpasing as we are talk "Mulk tareekh ke nazuk mur se guzar raha hai" you can translate that to AZ hahah

Yaar checking for spare tire, or a med kit is not same as hoarding guns/ammo MRE's and wasting hundreds/thousands of dollars on things which you will not even use mostly outside of gun ranges, Like i said my ex father in law had 3 AR-15's and when i first get to US, 2 out of the 3 were in pawn shop lol and yet he had a sniper, hunting rifle, 3-4 some kid of pistols, stacks upon stacks of ammo which were covered in dust. And as far as I know (not a stalker) he is still living in SC slowly dying of his diabetes and not fighting some evil Govt. Yara those are good movie plots but in reality you have hundreds of oldie white/black guys who hoard guns which after their peaceful passing away go to their kids and if their kids are as gun nut as their father they will add to their collection and if the family is poor, they will pawn them for money to pay bills.

Also don't use my example lol i am special case of having not a single survival skill, it took me 2 hours and 1 youtube video to figure out how to operate a drill machine hahaha

Resuce bhai, US 911 system is very good... i mean you should know it as you are in the similar field, you call 911 and if you need police/ambulance they will be there within minutes, not talking if you are in some remote area, but what my point is that even if you are in some small South Dakota or Oklahoma (which is not a real place @Davey Crockett right) you will not need 5-10 guns and stacks of ammo, because in both sceneario whether society collapse or govt comes after you, 95% chances are you are already taken out before you get to your gun to do anything. But again, US is not collpasing not in my, yours or AZ's life time, its a peaceful place besides some weird polarized politics, once that's fixed you will go back to been peaceful cities, and the rednecks will go back to driving their Ford F150's and eating breakfasts at waffle house.

Well i am not against learning skills like CPR, how to take dirty water and make it clean to drink it, change tire, basic car maintenance, etc... that doesn't need spending crazy amount of money into something you will not use, and will become good pillars for spider webs, lots of people suffer from poverty in US but their guns safe's are full and have 1000's of ammo, why? i saw one glock pistol and it was 550$... add few boxes of ammo, cleaning kit and a red dot sight, you are looking at 1000+$, that will get you a 5-7 at virgin cruise ship to Bahamas lol

Dear, you must remember you are primarily on a defence forum and interacting with often some people who are serving/ex or adjacent to military, they are wired differently and see the world through a different lens than a civilian does.

The reason people in American are passionate about guns goes back to the mindset of the minutemen and why the right to bear arms is enshrined within their constitution. Quite frankly I don't see the issue.

In most recent cases the first person to stop a marauding lone wolf terrorist or shooter has been another civilian with a gun. Guns are not the problem, the person behind the gun is.

Not everyone who keeps or uses firearms is a wack job waiting to go postal.

Data Link for Dummies:
F-15: I cant see shit. F-35: Send it bro.

Context: The airspace is networked. Friendly fighters sharing information automatically, not just relying on their own sensors. Maybe your jet’s radar can’t see an enemy…but another jet can & will guide your missile.

Thanks guys @ mr AZ and Rescueranger fo your inputs.
Fortunately my employer trained us on basic CPR and First Aid. Its a good skill to have. Not many people think and realize its importance.

For years i've kept those big plastic bottles just for keeping water (even if not for drinking) and also for drinking, and my family thought i'm crazy or a conspiracy theorist......their excuses, as always......oh nothing happened before so we dont see it happening now...... Some water shutdowns (watermain breaks) helped realize that we need to store some emergency drinking water (not enough but better than zero) at least for 1 day......we live in a building so we're dependent on Hydro/Electrical for everything even cooking. Having small kids makes it more important than ever,

I was just thinking of getting a portable butane camp stove type.......can be usable in short power outages to warm up food or tea, or something. I usually have my docs all in a bag ready to go with most stuff to manage initial 1-2 days although its not ideal here in cities.....

Have medicine, glucose tablets, first aid kids, medicine, etc and stuff like dried fruits and dates etc is great.

I remember Brasstacks in Pakistan (zaid hamid) was selling some of those prep backpacks with stuff too.....those looked military type too, and was pricey but strong material. If i lived in Pak i wouldve bought one.....

Be prepared and ready. Hope its never needed but good stuff to have.

Please for God's sake don't watch zaid hamid he is a quack. You live in Canada, sign up for a Red Cross or CERT training. You will learn a lot more valuable skills than that nut job living in Chaklala Scheme III could ever teach you.

You don't need to spend a lot of money at all on basic preparedness.

It's heartening to see you take an actual interest in this subject matter 👍

U.S. Warns Gulf of Possible Short, Intense Renewal of Iran War After Midterms

DUBAI—The U.S. has told several Gulf Arab countries to be prepared for a short, intense military campaign after the U.S. midterm elections, people briefed on the conversations said.

The communications through diplomatic and military channels are among a growing number of indications that the U.S. and Israel are readying to launch a new round of heavy combat operations against Iran, risking a major escalation in hopes of degrading Tehran’s strength and pushing it toward negotiations.

The U.S. military is bringing in a Patriot system from Texas to beef up its missile defenses and has moved troops off bases where they were vulnerable in preparation for an escalation, officials familiar with those moves said.

U.S. forces in the region have been restocking their munitions, and bomber aircraft and jet fighters are preparing for strikes, some of the officials said. An additional aircraft carrier strike group and Marine expeditionary unit are also poised to join an armada of roughly 20 other warships operating in the Middle East next month, although some ships could rotate out.

President Trump hasn’t decided to go ahead but is leaning toward a large postelection attack that could target Iranian infrastructure and nuclear sites, people familiar with his thinking said.

The alternative would be to try to cut a deal. Diplomatic efforts by regional mediators continued but had yet to bear fruit.

i still have some hope both sides can come to some sort of solution instead of war.

Yup.

And RARELY do you see a positive article in the MSM about a good guy with a gun. If it weren't for a good guy with a gun, who was willing to risk his life to save others, the carnage at the school in Bend, Oregon could have been a whole lot worse.

There is no real prepper culture in the UK. It is such a benign and passive place to live that now the government has asked people to prepare, it is freaking people out.

I need to start to think about this, and I don’t know of anyone who thinks of this in the UK.

Strange times!

Yeah man, was an eyeopener for us all here.

I think I have covered off the very basics, family of 3 (one adult daughter) so at Costco last week got 36 large bottles of water, 3 x crates of tinned food, 1 large bag of rice, 2 x bags of pasta, 6 x pasta sauces. Online ordered 3 x power pack, 3 x torches 1 x med kit. 1 fm radio. Cost me a small fortune but way I see it now the Government is not handing out this advice lightly,

Additionally we have massive outside grill area and indoor wood burner so next visit to B&Q just gonna stock up on logs to keep dry and in shed. That way we have heat source too that we can also cook on if required. For some bizarre reason we have stash of large candles in the loft already from some event so that will help

My thinking is all the above is more then enough for three days, but if need be we can last a week on it if we stretch things out. Main problem is storage as we needed to find space for cellars.
