Muslims are around 15% of the population. What percentage of BJP lawmakers are Muslims? Or since it's the elections month (how many percentage of BJP ticket holders are Muslims.
Since Modi is not anti Muslim, I am sure the percentage will be representative of indian demographics.
That is a very simplistic way of looking at things, What percentage would be appropriate according to you ? Would 15% of population need 15% representation in parliament? Who decides that? Does that mean women with 49% of the population would require 49% of the representation in parliament? How are we going to enforce this in elections where people from multiple faiths can join the elections under a party or being an independent. Should we limit certain seats in parliament to only have Muslims MP's, in which case this would be a discrimination against every other person in that particular seat who has a different religion?
Democracy is a simple process, anyone can fight elections under any party. If you can't win the popular vote. No point in complaining. The more you try to limit the process to certain religious or any ethnic identity, the more you filter away the 'merit' from the system.
