Yes- the PN is interested in Sea Sultan based AEW solution. Like P3 AEW. Probably poor performers- remember, they were only like $50m a peice iirc, that's less than what Nigeria paid for JF-17 B2.im assuming trying to “dump” them on PN for sea surveillance did not work either?
I’ve heard they aren’t very nice to fly either.
What are the paf analysts doing while evaluating the planeThe ZDK is based off Russian An-12 which is a gas guzzler and hard to maintain. Comparing it to the C-130 is a joke
Political pressure forced that purchase - mentioned multiple times and it is rumored that the chief at the time got into trouble with the kammando because of his objection for it.What are the paf analysts doing while evaluating the plane
evaluations vs operational experience very differentWhat are the paf analysts doing while evaluating the plane

IMO...based on the original tender documentation, it seems the PN might be using the LRMPA's built-in sensors for an AEW-type role. I don't think we'll see a dedicated AEW&C.Yes- the PN is interested in Sea Sultan based AEW solution. Like P3 AEW. Thats not entirely true......Political pressure forced that purchase - mentioned multiple times and it is rumored that the chief at the time got into trouble with the kammando because of his objection for it.
Not sure if it was just diplomatic pressure from the OEM country or some greasing of palms too the general grapevince consensus is that the PAF did not want the ZDK. So whoever made it happen lost the PAF money by buying them then AND not buying more Erieyes ANd the PAF having to buy more now at a higher price and exchange rate
possibly, i was looking at it from the more overall angle of pn's desire for a p3 based aew prior, but also from the current move of the PN building a GBAD system using a familiar MR system available to us, it would make alot of sense for a proper aew to provide OTH sensor data to their GBAD systems on the coastal areasIMO...based on the original tender documentation, it seems the PN might be using the LRMPA's built-in sensors for an AEW-type role. No - the JF-17 had the capacity to get Link-16 but the supplier was cut off - and then LInk-17 could still do it via ground stations. I know because it came to my desk.Thats not entirely true......
At the time PAF had no way of making its Chinese complement of ac communicate with erieye directly and was working on it.......so they bought the karakrum eagle to fill a niche for a certain period of time.
After PAF had overcome the problem satisfactorily it did not need karakrum eagle n can do it more efficiently n cost effectively through erieye once it had them in nos...
With the latest induction they will hit double figures.....
you are aware not even erieyes directly communicate with F-16s? All PAF assets communicate via GCS'/relays as i understand it.Thats not entirely true......

Technically the vipers could via Link-16 but the GCS is specifically for the Link-17 aspect. There were reports that SAAB was considering working with PAF to introduce the LInk-17 encoding onto the Erieye but that would mean opening up sourcecode for both sides -you are aware not even erieyes directly communicate with F-16s?
