Do you remember these Tongas, I’m old enough to remember in our village a bag of roasted channa cost led 5 paisa and Tonga rides used to cost 2 rupees.

Can you imagine a time transport costed 2 rupees? This was a beautiful and simple time in our history.

Tongas continued to remain a familiar site in cities like Peshawar until the late 90’s when they were banned from cities.

There used to be the main Tonga Stand outside the site of the old Deans Hotel.

Naqvi sb used to physically visit classes. And used to stand like army soldier during morning Assembly. A great and honest man he was. Never broke his principles of merit. Proud to be his student.

The Lady Reading Hospital is located at Peshawar in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pakistan. It is one of the most important post graduate medical institutes in Pakistan.

It is also called Loye Huspatal and Gernali Huspatal. It is named after Lady Reading, the wife of the Viceroy of India, Lord Reading. It is the biggest hospital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, providing tertiary care facilities.

Lovely thread!

@RescueRanger Shimla has the sister institute Lady Reading Hospital, later called the Kamla Nehru Hospital (KNH). Attached to IGMC (Indira Gandhi Medical College) as a teaching hospital.

Cheers, Doc

Kotla Mohsin Khan is a historic ‘Gate’ located on Kohat Road towards the south-west of Peshawar city. Kotla means a small fortified residence.
According to one legend, it was founded over a high mound in the second half of the 16th century by the noted Mughal Mansabdar Arbab Mustajab Khan Momand in the presence of two renowned spiritual figures -- Hazrat Kaka Sahib Rahmkar and Akhund Dirwaiza Baba.

Originally it was spread over 10 hectares of land. It is a three-storey structure. The second floor comprises small rooms and a compound while its third floor contains security posts along with two rooms.

Qissa Khwani Bazaar, Peshawar of the modern-days.
Qissa Khwani Bazaar is one of the ancient landmarks and attractions in Peshawar. It is located in the heart of Peshawar city.
Throughout ancient days, this was the meeting ground for caravans and military adventures from Central Asia, where professional storytellers recited ballads and tales of combat and passion for traders and warriors.
