I was studying Maldives transport system for tourists, you know.
They have one single airport with one single runway to accomodate large wide-body aircrafts like Boeing 777, in Male. From there, they take flights or ferry or road to their destination. Flights from Male to destination island are basically regional jets or turboprops or other smalller aircrafts. Its a basic hub and spoke model with Male as hub.
Lakshdweep can do the same, with Kochi and Kozikod being the hubs. Whats more, India can make Lakshdweep an extension of Kerala as a tourist trap.
Since Lakshdweep is small, having Kerala with it will make the entire package bigger while mitigating a lot of issues that Lakshdweep faces (like not being big enough to accomodate runways for large aircrafts).
India can also bypass entire airport issue by deploying likes of Be-200 (a flying boat that can accomodate 72 passengers)! No need to even make large airports on the islands. And Be-200 is a Russian product to top it all! Used world wide for fighting forest fire. It can reach Lakshdweep in less than an hour from Kochi or Kozikode. Even the farthest islands. Whats more it can double up as an emergency transport too as they can land on water as well and float as boats.
