Using the delay due to non delivery of GE F-404-IN20 engines, HAL has completed certifications of LRUs that had additional requirements added on. Basically upgraded certain LRUs that would've been taken up later if normal deliveries had been ongoing.

Tejas is much more than "just" a Mig 21 replacement
As for what IAF is keen on, I am sure IAF wouldn't be so keen repeating the same mistake of not ordering an upgraded variant twice,(or you know nevermind, It's IAF we are talking about, they have made far stupider decisions)

Yes, Tejas Mk1 was replacement to Mig-21 but Tejas Mk1A is different it might be on par with 4.5 gen fighters in technology-wise but lags in capacity-wise.

Order pattern of IAF with regards to Tejas clearly states that IAF is keen on inducting upgraded variants in batches rather than repeating orders for same. IN as doing the same with Talwar class frigate.

2024s fresh order for 97 fighters will have more indigenous contents and might have chances for new engine.

IAF already shown more interest on Tejas and once production of powerplant localised their involvement will increase as they know threat of depending on Imported engine during critical time.

Tejas Mk1 is just a stepping stone towards indigenization for IAF as its concentration is more towards heavier Tejas Mk2 & ORCA/TEDBF.

HAL Nashik is supposed to have it's assembly line ready by November 2024. Will deliver 3 Tejas Mk1As till March 2025, after which it will scale up to 8.

So 3 assembly lines (2 at Bangalore and 1 at Nashik), each capable of delivering 8 Tejas.

Reports of additional 97 aircraft order being delayed. IAF looks like it is abandoning Tejas, as per my prediction.

The delay is due to the consideration of using the Kaveri engine instead of the GE-F404 in the Tejas MK1B. Although GE has stated that they can scale up production to 24 engines per year, the potential switch to the Kaveri engine is causing the hold-up.

Tejas is just a Mig-21 replacement and not a long term project, IAF is more keen on having Tejas Mk.2 as it will provide the firepower they are desiring and might include your desired list.
