The first time I set foot on China was in 2002 (just at the small town of Hekou bordering Vietnam), i was amazed because how far it was advanced compared to Vietnam. Even with such low national GDP per capita (around 800$), Hekou was closer to a modern Western European town rather than a Vietnamese town, with tall, well-planned buildings and very modern street life

In 1980, in PPP, India had a per capita income of $582, which was nearly 2 times the Chinese per capita GDP of $307
In 1990, India's per person income was $367, while China's was $317.

i remember, till the time when Moin Khan type people used to visit India and back after few movies type activities.
if you know that Pakistani Per Capita income was higher than India till then, then we also remember that Per Capita Income of China was less than India till then. (in PPP terms.)
i mean, if Pakistan was richer than India till early 90s, since 70s, then we also know that India was richer than China during that same period ......

we find, as per our Cold War Experience with our NAM efforts against NATO, the Beijing and the Moscow signed NPT with other joined P5s while supporting all the good and bad of NATO against developing world.........

only '2' countries, the Pakistan and the India never signed NPT and i would say, the power not to sign NPT was more than those who signed NPT including P5s, who supported 'wrong' against developing countries.

the Tehran, the meaning of capital of Iran, and North Korea and Israel first signed NPT and afterword they deceived it. hence they faced sanctions.....

as per title of this thread, Pakistan had "Jayaz Haq" for nuclear tests in 1998, ,along with India's nuke test in 1974. and hence, India has given full official recognition to Pakistan's holding of Nuclear, as nuclear power.......

and as mentioned above, and hence, the same India's favour Iran and N Korea couldn't get as they were missing 'Jayaz Haq'. here, its worth mentioning that Israel is US's man......

Currently Uzbekistan and Bangladesh have almost equal GDP per capita, both nominal and PPP in US$, but Uzbekistan cities and countryside look not different to poorer East European EU countries like Bulgaria or Romania. They also have relatively advanced railway and road systems, which is ahead of USA, Canada and all American countries. Everywhere are clean and civilized. People are relatively well educated, although it is a Muslim-dominated society. Even their so-called slums are relatively clean and organized (a littile bit like Seoul slums)

Not to mention Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which are not far behind in social development, although they are as poor as the poorest African countries by GDP per capita in US$.

But Bangladesh and India look world apart from Uzbekistan, despite having similar GDP per capita.

In the 1990's India's GDP per capita was higher than that of China's, but China's cities back then still look better than today's Indian cities, while Indians are claiming that China is faking up its GDP.

Vietnam would never become as prosperous as China, that’s impossible. not because of the 100y war we were going thru.
I traveled to HK, SG in the 90s. back then China was less developed as it is today, but I knew China would catch up, there is no doubt. they are the same people.
the reason why China was held back because of the irrational policies by Mao zedong. otherwise China would have reached the level of Japan and Korea.

it’s more. it’s not only the war. Vietnam was destroyed while China not. then 10y head start before others. lucky chinese. Deng did many good things to China, although I considered him as war criminal because he initiated the war against Vietnam.

about India, the people of India is not industrious. building up heavy industries is difficult in India. the people in Vietnam luckily inherited some industrious gens from east Asia. so on paper we can.

China has more potential than Japan and Korea. if not misguided by irrational internal politics China can surpass both by great margins. that’s the reality.
