Chinese SAC - FC-31/J-35 5th Gen Stealth Aircraft

After mass production of J-35, China will soon surpass US in number of 5th Generation jets, therefore rule the skies.

Will the first flight of the J35A Air Force version use the WS19? Is it so bold? I thought we would use WS21 for the first flighAccording to your statement, is the J35A equipped with WS19 this time??? I am really looking forward to the Zhuhai Airshowt before
This is an issue that I'm just in the process of confirming. However, my friend is not sure either. He gave me feedback on a couple of main points.
1, There are only 1-2 J35A (WS19) available to fly.
2, WS21 and WS19 are hard to distinguish them by appearance. He is very aware of the WS19, but not the WS21.
3, J35A and J35, except the engine, there are many details difference. J35A in the early stage of development, using the WS21 engine, later will be replaced by WS19. so he is not sure whether the engine of the J35A that came to Zhuhai this time is WS21 or WS19.

PLAAF News Conference: PLAA knows that the new weapons to be released in Zhuhai show still won't meet our people's high expecations for PLAAF, but please feel assured that the new weapons which totally meet our people's expectations will been revealed at an appropriate time, please feel assured on that.

Wow! I must confess, I am surprised, astonished, amazed … and I think it is easy to say that the unveiling of the J-35A, the confirmation as a PLAAF variant and the presentation in Zhuhai is the sensation of the year, at least for me!

You have to keep in mind, we have been talking about it for years, only since September 2023 have there been more tangible information about this version, for a long time only blurry or very small photos were available, usually there was speculation about an export version along the J-35 carrier version and now, just under 14 months after the known first flight, it is shown in Zhuhai?? Just wow ... and that's where the questions begin to circle with me:

- since when is the PLAAF interested in its own version?
- what prototype is this (can anyone recognise a number?)?
- how far advanced is the program in the meantime, how many prototypes are there?
- what does the original variant J-35 do in parallel? (Prototypes 01, 03 and 05 are currently confirmed and probably another one ... but maybe there are more in the meantime?)

Questions about questions and all this so early in the morning.

PLA is usually the name for Chinese armed forces as a whole.
He is referring to PLA AF.

J-35A Gyrfalcon

It was first rumored in March 2021 that a dedicated variant dubbed J-35A was being developed for PLAAF without arresting hook and folded wings. Consequently the airframe is believed to be lighter than the naval J-35, thus improves its performance. An airframe was rumored to have been transported to the 623 Institute for static tests in March 2022. It was also speculated in mid-2023 that a J-35B tandem seat version similar to J-20B could be under development for training and EW purposes. The first J-35A prototype conducted its maiden flight over Shenyang on September 26, 2023. A recent image (May 2024) indicated that at least one J-35A prototype has been flying at SAC, featuring an FC-31 style single-wheel nose gear and an IRST underneath the nose. In addition, its wing area appears slightly smaller than the carrier-borne J-35. J-35A is anticipated to be unveiled at the 2024 Zhuhai Airshow.

I don't think J35 will have a good range. It's kind of similar to the dimensions of the F35 but has two engines. So where will it carry fuel for higher ranges
What’s the good range you have in mind?
F-35 does have a large fuel fraction and the F-135 is a revolutionary engine - but what do you expect the range to be for a fighter in this weight class to be good?

From it’s last airshow appearances the range provided for combat was 750 miles
@Michael or @Deino can confirm - and we can continue your views in the J-31 thread

This working attitude reminds me of our southern neighbor, PPT after PPT, models after models and nothing deliver.

The latest version of the data is not available.

The data for the earlier version (FC31) is publicly available.
Operational radius: 1200KM (without sub-tanks and without aerial refueling)
Maximum takeoff weight: 28 tons
Maximum flight speed: Mach 1.8
Maximum mounting capacity: 8 tons (internal bomb bay 2 tons + external 6 tons)

===========================================

My personal opinion:
The use of “revolutionary” to describe the F135 is an inappropriate description; the term is more appropriate to describe the F119.

From the point of view of technological revolution, the F119 was the revolutionary engine, the F135 was nothing more than a product of compromise choices based on already existing technology. Of course, the F135 is definitely an excellent engine, but it is not suitable to be described as “revolutionary”.

The J-35A is a new generation of medium stealth multi-purpose fighter aircraft independently developed by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China. It adopts a normal layout of single seat, dual engine, wing body fusion, dual sweep outward tilt vertical tail, and fully dynamic flat tail with integrated design of overall/aerodynamic/stealth. It is a scale component of stealth and anti stealth combat system, mainly focusing on air superiority combat and also taking into account enemy combat. The main task is to seize and maintain air superiority, strike enemy third/fourth generation fighter jets, ground/sea air defense forces, intercept enemy fighter jets, bombers, cruise missiles and other aerial targets.
The J-35A is a multi-purpose fighter jet that can be used for air, ground, and sea operations. As China's new generation stealth fighter, the 'new' of the J-35A is mainly reflected in stealth, informatization, networking, and intelligence, "said Wang Yongqing, Chief Expert and Director of the Science and Technology Committee of the Shenyang Institute of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China. Demand, fulfill our own dreams
Screenshot_20241105_143320_Weibo.jpgRegarding the significant advantages of the J-35A, Wang Yongqing summarized it as "discovering the enemy first, killing the enemy first, and seizing the initiative". According to its introduction, when confronting the previous generation of aircraft, the J-35A can remain outside the enemy's effective perception range, achieve one-way transparency of the battlefield situation, have overwhelming advantages, and subvert the traditional air combat style; When confronting aircraft of the same generation, accurate situational information can be obtained by relying on the strong lethality and survivability of individual aircraft, as well as advanced means of formation coordinated combat, to achieve a fast and stable closed-loop of the enemy's kill chain and seize the opportunity.
