Bangladesh Socio-Political Crisis 2024 and onwards

This is something I have been saying for the last 3 months. We have wasted 3 months behind this useless Interim Government full of mediocrities, puppets and doubtful people and in the meantime the AL and RAW has been able to regroup and are prepared to strike but there is no effective counter as the energy was dissipated on August 5 when the revolution was abruptly stopped by Yunus and the Asif clique.

Whatever the situation we can't give up at this stage. Yes, we seems to be vulnerable but counter-revolution/coup is not walk in the park for them either. There's a lot of risk for them also.

What we really needed to do is to go on a killing spree right after the revolution. And kill our worst enemies left and right for the sake of the Republic and ourselves.
Everybody was calling me a madman for saying this out loud since the revolution. If you folks can remember I was advocating for a full bloodbath. Because revolution without blood is bound to fail...

Unfortunately, Bangladesh not the place where play it nice. Survival first, then reforms. That should be the order of priority.

Yes, but what's that?
My two cents.
If some folks are willing to give you a commitment of $10+ billions to help you out in a crisis , they would want you to do something in return. Most of the commitments are from Western led governments.

In a nutshell, India and AL are working overtime to undermine the IG as well as tarnish the reputation of Dr. Yunus by exaggerating the attacks on minorities. Indians have never done this in the past by going after Dr. Yunus.

Recently, Nahid gave a very articulated response to Indian concerns.

My understanding is that as long as this IG remains, the more vulnerable the nation will be. The Indians and their AL allies are still hatching conspiracies.

Elections may need to be held sooner and necessary reforms can be held by the elected government. A coalition government constituting of major parties including the student movement.

Tarique Rahman's address is encouraging.

But he needs to clean his party. Too many dinosaurs at best. Some traitors at worst. We can only hope the student movement will form a party.

All sides of Bangladesh politics have their homework to do.

Regarding AL, it is unlikely they will admit to their wrongs and instead try to come back to power via some miracle. At this rate, they will wither away into oblivion.

No reforms will be conducted by either BNP or AL.

If the interim government cannot do it, then expect more of the same as happened last time the two parties alternated every 5 years in power.

Perhaps. But times have changed. Could it be that the BNP can bring changes within itself given the situation? Like I said, Tarique needs to sort out his party and bring in new blood. The AL are a lost cause.

There is a media war going on as we speak. Aggressive disinformation by the Awamis and the Hinduvta about whatever is going on in Bangladesh are in full swing. They are very ruthless. And they are going after Dr. Yunus like rabid dogs. And we don't have much a counter against them. No media strategy whatsoever so far. To add insult to injury, Bangladeshi X users do not have the 'Community Notes' option on X social media platform. I have requested this to the Press Secretary. I hope they got the message and understood how critical this is to counter their false narratives. Understand that X is currently the top app for news sources.

This signifies that the Awamis are desperate and have no options left but to fight for their survival. And this makes them very dangerous.

More capable people are needed as advisors if we are to transition this in a meaningful way. And fast.

Introspection is something not found in politicians. Even if Tariq Zia wants to do reform he will face pressure or little cooperation from the other Senior BNP leaders. There is this 15 years of hunger thingy lingering around!
Reform now , or it will never happen.

Prosecuting those involved in enforced disappearances and abductions is challenging, Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has said.

Speaking at a program organized by the Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances in a hotel in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Friday, the adviser said countering the effects of the past 15 years of governance within a few weeks is extremely difficult.

Asif Nazrul said: “Although we lack certain capabilities, we do not lack sincerity. The government is considering the rehabilitation and compensation of families of the disappeared. We are committed to everyone.”

In response to a question from family members of victims of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings who were present at the event, he said: “This government is not like previous ones. We are not political figures. By the grace of Allah, each of us is established in our respective professions. Therefore, there is no question of repeating the actions of past governments.

“No government has ever formed a commission to investigate enforced disappearances or extrajudicial killings. If there have been any mistakes in our governance, you are surely free to criticize us.”

A family member of a victim of enforced disappearance, choked with emotion, said: “We request this government to at least give us some information. Please help us.”

At the event, Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan emphasized that justice is everyone’s priority, not just for families of the victims of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, but for everyone who suffered from the repression of the Awami League over the past 15 years.

I will give them the benefit of doubt. Like I said, he needs to sort out his own party. Getting rid of those dinosaurs should be a priority if BNP wants to move forward.

And then there are these:

They got problems.

This is the real purpose of the Asif Nazrul clique that includes Adilur Rahman Khan, Md. Asaduzzaman and Rifat Ahmed. Recent statements of Asif and now Asad makes it clear their agenda is contrary to the 'revolution' ...

Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has called into question the interim government's authority to amend the Constitution.

Speaking at a seminar at the National Press Club on Sunday, he highlighted the ‘limitations’ of the president's power to issue orders after the dissolution of parliament.

The seminar, organised by the Law Reporters Forum, focused on the topic of 'Proposals for the Draft Constitution'.

Asaduzzaman said, "In post-revolutionary Bangladesh, amending the Constitution is a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives. We must consider our constitutional limitations."

Referring to Article 93 of the Constitution, the attorney general suggested that it is important to consider whether the caretaker administration has the authority to amend the Constitution.

Following the fall of the Awami League government, the Muhammad Yunus-led government has proposed several reforms, including changes to the Constitution.

A commission, headed by Ali Riaz, is working on recommendations for constitutional amendments.

Riaz had previously suggested scrapping the Constitution and writing a new one.

Advisor Mahfuj Alam, who is also a member of the commission, has voiced his support for creating a new Constitution.

However, the power to amend the Constitution lies solely with the elected parliament, a point that BNP has been repeatedly reminding.

Asaduzzaman said Article 93 of the Constitution allows everything except amending the Constitution.

He added that, with no parliament and no referendum, these issues would arise, both logically and legally.

This article defines the limits of the president’s power to issue ordinances when parliament is dissolved or not in session.

The article says the president shall not issue any ordinance that:

a) Could not lawfully be made under this Constitution by Act of Parliament;

b) Alters or repeals any provision of this Constitution; or

c) Continues the application of any provision of an ordinance previously issued.

After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina regime, the interim government took an oath to uphold the Constitution.

The consequences for altering or repealing the Constitution are clearly outlined in the system of governance, and BNP leaders have been issuing warnings about this matter.

The Anti-discrimination Student Movement called for the removal of President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

However, BNP opposed this, citing that the Constitution does not allow for such a move, bringing the discussion to a standstill.

The attorney general advised making the Constitution truly sovereign, suggesting that reforms should be introduced to guarantee that every five years, the people can exercise their sovereign power.

He added, "I believe that if the required steps are taken to ensure this, the Constitution will be sovereign. It will reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people of Bangladesh."

I will give them the benefit of doubt. Like I said, he needs to sort out his own party. Getting rid of those dinosaurs should be a priority if BNP wants to move forward.

And then there are these:

They got problems.
I don’t expect BNP to run a clean Govt. If the corruption is taken down to whatever the level was was in before 2009 is fine.
However once in power they will not do any structural reform. Politicians are not known to give up easy and centralized power.
In 1994 republican party came to power with a slogan contract with America, a big part of that slogan was term limits for Congress, once they were in control of the congress, they forgot all about it.

Structural reforms are more important than anything else.
There must be circuit brakers on the way to a complete totalitarian governance.
