Indian Politics and Internal News

What this says is that there are at least 4.21 crore economically poor families in India. And assuming 5 person per family, that would mean 21 crore poor. Maybe we should first get this number down significantly before doing any comparison.

I never said it is false. They made houses for 4.21 crore poor families. So there are at least 4.21 crore poor families. Or around 21 crore poor.

For rural the rules are of at least 25 sq m house. The government gives 1.2 Lacs. Also arranges 70K loan. A toilet in the house is mandatory. Toilet is funded by Swatch Bharat.

you people would come to this thread now, i would try to put more information on this scheme of India here :)

Modi 3.0 approves 3 cr more houses under PM Awas Yojana in rural & urban India

New Delhi: The newly formed Union Cabinet Monday approved the proposal to sanction three crore houses in rural and urban areas under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in what was one of the first major decisions of the NDA government in its third term.

The PMAY, in the last 10 years, has ensured 4.21 crore houses for eligible economically poor families, according to the latest government figures.

“It has been decided in the Cabinet meeting today to provide assistance to 3 crore additional rural and urban households for the construction of houses to meet the housing requirements arising out of the increase in the number of eligible families,” read the statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Monday.
Houses constructed under PMAY come with basic amenities such as toilets, LPG connection, electricity connection, functional water tap connection, etc., facilitated under other central and state schemes, said the PMO statement.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government, it added, has been working on a plan to bridge the housing gaps in rural and urban areas from last year.

Though the Centre did not give a break-up of the number of houses in rural and urban areas, it will likely provide financial assistance to two crore families in rural areas for houses, according to the interim budget this year.

The Union housing and urban affairs ministry — the nodal ministry for implementing PMAY-Urban — is also working on a plan to provide relief on home loans to eligible beneficiaries in urban areas.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the government campaigned on affordable housing to connect with poor people in rural areas and the middle-class segment in cities.

Modi, in his Independence Day speech last year, announced that the government was planning a scheme to provide relief on the interest charged on home loans for middle-class families in urban areas. The PM, speaking from the ramparts of the Red Fort, said, “Middle-class families are dreaming of their own house. We are coming up with a plan for that also for the coming few years… family members who live in cities but live in rented houses, live in slums, live in chawls, unauthorised colonies (will be covered). We have decided to help (people save) lakhs of rupees by giving relief in the interest of the loan they will take from the bank.” :coffee:

Presenting the 2024-25 interim budget in February this year, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman first announced the decision to construct two crore additional houses in rural areas. “Despite the challenges due to COVID, implementation of PMAY-G continued and we are close to achieving the target of three crore houses. Two crore more houses will be taken up in the next five years to meet the requirement arising from (an) increase in the number of families,” she said at the time. :coffee:

Under PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G), which ended on March 31 this year, 2.95 crore rural beneficiaries have received financial assistance to build houses, and the rural development ministry’s dashboard on the scheme showed 2.62 crore of these houses are complete. On the other hand, 1.19 crore houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-Urban, according to the latest government figures.

Last year, the Modi government also decided to sanction five lakh additional houses to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), launched in November 2023.

Who is eligible for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)?

With the mission of “Housing for All”, Government of India started the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). However, there are many doubts for loan seekers like who is eligible for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)? What is the eligibility to apply under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)?

Schemes under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)

Currently, there are three schemes under which you can apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). They are as below.
  • EWS (Economically Weaker Sections)/LIG (Low Income Group)
  • CLSS (MIG-I)
  • CLSS (MIG-II)
Whoever applying under EWS scheme must have an annual income between Rs.3 lakhs to Rs.6 lakhs :coffee:

lol India wasn't even a country 100 years ago so put away a few 0s

we call "Jai Hind" for the nation since school of my age, mine was during 80s and 90s.... :)

here, the "Indian Ocean" and "Hind Mahasagar" in Hindi language we discuss for the Hind land of Asia and similarly in English name, its "Indian subcontinent land",

i hope i would have cleared the difference between what we study since school upto now.....

further, the India's Hindi name is 'Hindustan'-'Bharat' both are in Hindi language. have you heard "Jai India"? its too poor to be called..... we even throw 'Jai Bharat' to rubbish bin....
only "Jai Hind" is what only we use for the nation.. :)

Britain had rule mainly starting from 1900 century which was similar to US-west stay in Afghanistan....... President Rule of US-west couldn't get taxes from whole Afghan during their stay, little bit Tax collection was seen on Kabul Area only..... similar to British stayed India, India or Afghanistan also didn't pay taxes, mostly, to Western Rule.....

Historian seriously doubt the term "colony" used for India. the British Tax Collection, starting from somehow since 1900 to upto 1947, was rarely covering whole India :coffee:

a news during troubled rule of Britain as below ........
.

=> it was observed that Congress was seen more powerful during British stay on India. the Congress which was led as president by both My Gandhi and Mr SC Bose both...... :)

Nation by what regards?
Western idea of statehood? If yes then by that logic yes the country is relatively new. The need for a common political consciousness arose after the arrival of the British.
By this logic almost all Asian nations are relatively newer in conception. I never found merit in this argument that "India didn't exist 100 years ago" yes it did and like many historical nations it found the common political consciousness after the arrival of the British. Before that depending on the era the region was ran by various kingdoms who intermingled and at times vast swathes were ruled by one king.

For sovereignty you need:
1. Full control of sovereign over all lands.
2. Fixed population within defined territorial limits.
3. Independent functioning of Sovereign.

Anyone who satisfies this is a state under the statehood criteria.

The danes gave the various squabbling Saxon nations in England a common cause to unite.

The Americans were united by British Imperialism.

The Japanese were united by Japanese Nationalism.

The list goes on. History is choke full of them. The modern definition is a 20th century idea of statehood.

Ultimately, the Third Anglo-Maratha War (1817–1818) resulted in the loss of Maratha independence. It left the British in control of most of the Indian subcontinent. The Peshwa was exiled to Bithoor (Marat, near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh) as a pensioner of the British.
