Cruise Ships based in the US - News and Discussions

Planning a cruise trip with family. Need some recommendations to family cruises. Not necessarily US based. In fact SEA will be preferred. Some specific information I am looking for:
1. What are some of the best cruise companies in the world?
2. What are the best websites for booking cruises?
3. How do I get information about what experience I will get on cruises. I want to take my parents, so want to be cautious in terms of their comfort.

I think for your parents you should go for the "WOW" factor over being "coddled".

I just watched this entire 1.5 hour video and I'm just floored.

Here I fast-forwarded to one of the mind-blowing areas:

My wife and oldest was on Icon back in May. They like it less than Oasis class. Too crowded vs Oasis ships.

Well the ship is new. Expect them to milk it for every passenger they can squeeze in as possible.

Demand for Royal Caribbean's new Icon of the Seas is exceptional and breaking records

Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley talked about this fact, "Icon is literally the best performing new product launch we've ever had in the history of our business, and we're delighted with volume and rate and that really is a full 24 product."

"I know it's a brand new product and it's stunning, but it's really driving a huge amount of demand and great rate."

..and the insanity is just getting started......the next Icon Class ships are even bigger

Costco Revealed it Sold a 150-Day World Cruise for $293K

During an earnings call on December 12, 2024, Costco’s Chief Financial Officer Gary Millerchip shared that the company sold a $293,000, 150-day, around-the-world cruise through its Costco Travel services.

This specialty side of Costco offers cruises, vacation packages, and rental cars to its members.

While revealing fun facts about the travel business, including that Costco Travel “sold enough rental cars to fill every US Costco parking spot 8.5 times,” Millerchip dropped the bombshell sale.

“Our largest cruise booking last year was a 150-day around-the-world cruise starting from Fort Lauderdale and making stops in places like the Galapagos and Easter Islands,” he said.

“The total price was $293,000 for two in the Owner’s Suite cabin and added values on the booking included a shipboard credit of $13,000 and a Costco shop card worth $25,000,” he continued.

Star of the Seas Becomes Most Anticipated New Cruise Ship for 2025

Star of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s second Icon-class ship, is the Most Anticipated New Cruise Ship of 2025 in the Cruise Hive Awards, garnering nearly 30% of reader votes.

The outcome is not surprising, considering that the line’s first Icon-class vessel, Icon of the Seas, which debuted in January 2024, was the most anticipated new cruise ship of that year. Indeed, Icon of the Seas was voted the Best Cruise Ship of 2024.

Star of the Seas is under construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, and due to enter service in late August 2025. Like Icon of the Seas, now the largest cruise ship sailing, Star of the Seas will be 248,663 gross tons with a guest capacity of 5,610 at double occupancy.

When she debuts, Royal Caribbean will have the distinction of operating the world’s two largest cruise ships.

Star of the Seas will offer eight neighborhoods, each offering distinctive amenities, venues, and services, such as the exciting AquaDome entertainment and dining area; Chill Island, for those seeking a laid-back vibe; Thrill Island, where adventure rides await; the family-friendly Surfside; and longtime Royal Caribbean favorites like Royal Promenade and Central Park.

The new ship will homeport at Port Canaveral, Florida, and offer 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises. Undoubtedly, most itineraries will include a call at Royal Caribbean’s popular Perfect Day at CocoCay private destination.

In fact, Perfect Day at CocoCay was named Best Cruise Line Private Island in the 2024 Cruise Hive Awards.

Cruises aboard Star of the Seas opened for sale in December 2023, with a launch date of August 24, 2025. However, two months later the line announced a delay in construction would push the ship’s launch back to August 31, 2025.

No specific reason for the delay was offered, but the line was forced to cancel the ship’s inaugural 7-night Eastern Caribbean & Perfect Day cruise scheduled to depart Port Canaveral on August 17, 2025.

The Cruise Hive Awards were launched in 2014. Voting for this year’s winners opened in mid-October 2024, with seven award categories. All voting is by Cruise Hive readers, who had a choice of 13 ships in the Most Anticipated New Cruise Ship category.
