It seems there is a widespread view that Iran has managed the Syria arena poorly.
But realistically speaking, what could Iran have done? Short of sending a huge army to fight on the regimes behalf and esentially becoming an occupying power, it would become Iran's Vietnam, to fight against such an insurgency. And in the end Iran would not be able to quell those rebels in the long run.
It only succeeded 10 years ago when Iran sent advisors/IRGC, because there still existed an inherent will among Syrian army officers (even though they were incompetent) to defeat the plot.
Now there was not only no competence, there was also no will in the SAA. The speed of which everything crumbled and three major cities, including the capital, fell, well that says it all doesnt it?
No amount of Iranian money or soldiers/officers was EVER going to fix such a problem.
So to those blaming Iran for this, what was Iran to do?
