Possible side by side cockpit it's very likely a strike aircraft with BVR air to air capability which is good since you get away from a one role type of aircraft like J-20 and J-35.

However this is a just a demonstrator and a prototype is likely years away.

Demonstrator shouldn't be with 3 engines with internal weapon bay.

It must be a prototype.

Your 6th gen flight has done them a huge solid (no pun intended) by shutting up those long hair tree hugging hippies in US congress that wanted to slash NGAD's capability maybe even cut it all together. Thank you! This is not the first time Yu celestials done us a solid. When there was talk about cutting the USN carrier fleet and build pocket carriers with only F-35B's celestial start their own CVN carrier program eliminating the possible US pocket carrier.

Three engines absolutely indicates engine turbine issues. Higher costs, higher maintenance, reduced payloads.

China is likely many years behind US state of the art three stream adaptive cycle engines which will almost certainly be on NGAD aircraft.

If the 3rd one is ramjet, then the 3 engine solutions will be much cheaper and more matured than the adaptive cycle engines which make NGAD is extremely costly and hamper the development of itself.

Besides, China has mastered the rotary detonation engine that enable the fighter to speed from subsonic to hypersonic and it is lot cheaper than adaptive cycle engines too.

But today, all hell break loose. How dare the Chinese made the first flight ahead of the western masters that created India. The westerners are like demigods to Indians. And China officially flied a six generation fighter before their demigods that Indians looked upon.

Today, Indians are disillusioned that the equivalent of their gods are beaten by the Chinese.

Someone please correct me, I think I read a post, few years ago by Yang Wei (if I recall correctly) based on his interview. In this interview, he discussed the concept of an 'aircraft family' for the Next Generation Fighter. If this is the case, we might see several different 6th-generation aircraft designed for specific roles, rather than just two or three types.

@Michael @Deino Do you guys remember or have any information about this or something similar?


What I found so far is this:

In an interview with China Daily, Yang Wei, the chief designer of the J-20, stated that designers will develop variants of the radar-evading J-20 and will open research on its successor – a sixth-generation fighter jet.

He specifically said:

• "We are not complacent about what we have achieved. We will develop the J-20 into a large family and keep strengthening its information-processing and intelligent capacities."

This indicates a future where the J-20 might evolve into a family of aircraft, potentially optimized for different roles such as air superiority, strike, electronic warfare, or even unmanned operations.

I found more information about the interview. However, they are in Chinese, and their meaning changed when they were translated into English. So, to prevent misunderstanding, I will not repost them in their original form. Those who are interested can go to the Chinese platform to check on their own, and these are all public information.

In all his interviews, he did not use the description “6th Gen fighter”. Instead, he used the terms “new fighter” and “future development after the J-20”.

Combine this with my previous point. So far, neither the US nor China has given any accurate description of the standard definition of the “6th Gen fighter”.
I.e., what is a “6th Gen Fighter”? How does it differ from the 5th Gen fighter?
This is the core of the new arms race between China and the United States. The standard definition of the “6th Gen fighter” is the moment for both sides to show their cards.

We are now basically clear. China is about to master/has already mastered the technology of manned hypersonic (>Mach 5) flight in near space (altitude of 20~100KM).
I'm not sure if China has included this technology in the “6th Gen Fighter” criteria.
When China officially announces the new SAC and CAC aircraft in the future, will they be described as “5.5th Gen Fighter” or “6th Gen Fighter”? That depends on the U.S. response to their first flights.

Keep in the mind that the J-20B escorted CAC's 6th gen aircraft are also equipped with two 185KN afterburner WS-15 turbofan engines. Only USA and Russia can attain that level of engine powerhouse.

Meanwhile the J-20B looks very primitive and weak in front of the 6th gen fighter.

The gap between the J-20 and the 6th gen is bigger than the gap between the J-20 and its predecessor 4th gen.

you are going too far, they are not near space aircraft, in fact, we human has not developed such manned aircraft yet, drone maybe.

The third ramjet engine is for near space flight.

Whereas SAC's 6th gen looks like a regular 6th gen.
