Have been hearing a lot of rumours to this effect in Indian media and social media. Hopefully, this is untrue. I am no fan of the IG but an outright army intervention is not something that should be welcomed. As the unfortunate example of PAK shows, there are long term unwelcome consequences.

This isn't true. I will let those who live inside Bangladesh speak for it. But from what I hear things are back to normalcy.

Army intervention isn't welcome and Army knows it very well. Bangladesh army isn't foolish enough to head in the direction of Egypt and Pakistan. One - generals won't have the support of the soldiers, which is the reason why Waker had to stand back and not fire at people in August last year, leading Hasina to flee. Two- Bangladesh is difficult to subdue for any dictator because of single ethnicity majority, huge population and a small geographic location. There is nowhere to hide for dictators. History has proven it over and over again. Don't think any of the Generals have any appetite for bullets or mob justice.

As for law and order situation - it will not get better in the short run. A lot of people in Bangladesh whose sole source of income was politics i.e. extortion using political power. With Hasina gone, all these thugs now have to resort to stealing and robbery to make livelihood. This isn't going to change overnight. Even an elected government, won't be able to solve this in short run. The solution is to create more economic opportunities and also strengthen police force, both will need time.

If BNP comes, these thugs will simply change camp and do the same extortion business. BNPs own thugs have already started doing it and getting called out by everyone. To the point BNP had to publicly expel some of their members to save face.

Zulkarnain Saer has an interesting past. His real name is different. I don’t think he is an active Al Jazeera reporter. Al Jazeera says he is a past investigative reporter.
I think the recent event about NCP and Walker has been blown out of proportion.
My two cents about General Walker is that he is trying to shield the army from the misdeeds of the last 16 years. This will also complicate cases against Hasina and her cohorts.

Yeah he has his own camp too. but his sources are more reliable, especially when it comes to military internal affairs compared to the other social media influencers.

Re Waker - agree he is trying to save his organization. I was surprised to see folks like Brig Gen (rtd) Azmi, who was illegally detained for years by Hasina in Aynaghar, also vouching for Waker in a recent post.

The entire country is in complete chaos right now. Those who once stood against our Liberation War are now in power—plain and simple.

This particular group does not believe in Bangladesh, despises our independence, and even hates our national anthem. They are on a mission to erase everything related to our Liberation War, culture, and national identity. The sad part is they are doing all these under the nose of the Army, and our Army is not doing anything other than just watching this circus.

The problem with the Islamists is that they despise ethnic identities that bind us together.

For them there’s only one identity: ISLAM.

But as we can see in so many Muslim countries - Islamic identity has failed miserably to hold nations together.

Islamists will fail in BD as well but what damage will they do before we can push back?

Bangladesh is reliant on trade and good relations with non Muslim countries.

We cannot afford to become an Islamist country.

No. Because they have been given “magistrate” powers.

Don’t tar all students with the same dirty brush.

It’s mainly “Madrasah students”.

We need to slowly shut down Madrasas. They produce kids who have no life skills and are fodder for the Islamists to exploit!

Madrasahs need to be replaced with vocational training.

There’s a massive shortage of brick layers, plasterers, electricians, plumbers etc in the world.

U.K. alone needs hundreds of thousands of workers to build 1.5 million new homes over the next 5 years.
