J-10C is way newer than Typhoon in design. J-10C compared to Typhoon is sort of like P-51D Mustang compared to Fw-190A Wurger.

All the new planes switched to DSI. J-10 did. JF-17 did. F-35 did. Su-75 did.

No only few have DSI most of them conventional fixed or variable ramp intake, even your J10A have conventional fixed intake, and where do you get it that Su-75 has DSI intake?

J-10A hasn't been in production since like 2012. J-10A production was replaced by J-10B.

J-10B and J-10C have the same fuselage. And BTW I forgot to mention J-20 which has DSI.

This is a good question!

It is correct though I would say both airframes are contemporary

A mock up similar to the final Eurofighter was shown in 1986. Some changes are noticeable and I believe the design phase ran until around 1988-89.
Though the first flight was in 1994 but the first prototype was unveiled in 1992 and the first flight was delayed by issues with the flight control system. I believe the first metal was cut in 1989.

A mock up of the first J-10 was complete in 1991. From the pictures I have you will note the inlet is F-16 like not the J-10A’s. This is because the original plane was to use a Chinese domestic copy of the R29-300 obtained from Egypt. When the Al-31f became available the aircraft was redesigned which I believe occurred in 1994, besides the intake the rear fusalage was made wider. of course the first flight was 1998. The J-10B was a second redesign that was also fairly extreme, besides the intake a number of systems were changed. Both of these redesign’s changed the aircraft aerodynamics and center of gravity somewhat.

So the J-10 is a hair younger but its probably more accurate to call them contemporary.


This exercise seems to be more a story of avionics and missiles, but undeniably it’s been a good few weeks for the J-10.
