Note this year 2025,USA has chosen it's 6th gen fighter to be built.
We are still struggling with our 4th gen fighter for more thn 2 decades. And still the final iteration(lca mk2 ) is far away.
I Don't know why but I got a feeling that NGAD might arrive earlier thn mk2.

A separate set of tech is being built so that when we finally decide to go 6th we don't start from scratch like we did for Tejas

Sorry to again ruin the party and exactly as my friend Angad asks and if we were honest, everyone involved would have to admit that this is not a day to celebrate, but only the confirmation of an embarrassing failure of long-term planning

The question is: Does it already have an engine installed?

It will, but it'll be a Category B, reserve engine. Only for powering it up, conducting all the ground tests and first few flight tests. After that, they'll probably remove the reserve engine and wait for the new engine to arrive before handing it to the IAF.

I noticed nobody criticises out navy for indengious weapons
Very quiet on that front
The air force will get their act together sooner or later
Don't Worry 😏

Thread 'The absolute clown state of Indian Navy's Indigenisation effort'

The question is: Does it already have an engine installed?

India bought 75 engines from GE as part of earlier contract
40 were used to make 32 Tejas MK1s fighters and 8 Twinseater Trainers
Another 9 were used for Air force Prototypes and LSP 1 to 7
2 were used for Tejas Naval prototypes and another 3 were used for Ground Based testing by HAL and DRDO

So HAL and IAF still had around 20 engines in stock
These engines are classified as category B engines ie they have clocked any where from 200 to 1000 hrs as part of routine sorties with 2 Operational Sqds of Tejas MK1.

8 of these engines have been used for Tejas MK1A Production
7 single seat aircraft and 1 twin seat trainer

With remaining being retained with IAF to ensure fleet readiness among 40 batch 1 Tejas

The Indian Samosa is improving, at least on paper, with every version. It has significant mirage influence and American assistance to be successful. the only problem is it is 10-15 years too late.

by the time all MK1A is delivered [estimated b 2032/34] it will be obsolete. BY then PAF will have already inducted J35A in numbers plus PAF version of KAAN rolling off the production line in PAC in addition to single engine 5th PFX . Add to it stealth UAV's and trusted wingman.

while on the other hand, IAF will have samosa MK1A in numbers that is at best a 4 gen fighter, few more squadrons of rafael, may be few squadrons of MLUed type upgraded Su30MKi. AMCA will still be on the drawing board with few test examples lurking around at the best [highly unlikely]. if I am IAF fanboy i will be worried ..... really worried.
beating its chest like a white gorilla, with some near 5th gen version of AMCA. again a sorry state.
