What do you expect from these people, I learned very early on to many of these people doesn't matter if you are Indian, Pakistani, Turkish or Somali - you are seen as the "Other". Which is why I never react to a foreign "white" tourist who badmouths India... Because if he bad mouthing India he is bad mouthing our combined identity as south Asians.

This is a very deep introspective nature that I maintain as a personal principle. Sadly we brown folk seem to have a tendency to seek validation from the white man, the ghulami of the 1890s hasn't yet left our combined collective memory and DNA it would seem.

Exactly, a long time ago I was on a course outside of Pakistan with batchmates, and we saw a Sardar Ji taxi driver getting abused by some drunkard, calling him all sort of racist expletives, we said right now we are neither Indian nor Pakistan the two of us went and "wrapped up" the idiot nice and proper, the Sardar Ji gave us a lift back to our hotel as a thank you.

That quote of "an act of war" is being quoted everywhere in the west right now. I think, it is good as it undermines India's narrative that this is a containable issue, which it is not. About the only good thing the minister has said so far.

But as far as the western people thinking we are "Backwards" our ancestors had developed dentistry and had urban planning when their ancestors were painting their faces blue with berry juice and climbing up hills with clumps of iron.

That is because the majority of the west for better or for worse feel they have no room or need of organised religion in their lives, their faith is replaced by Apple and Samsung and Sony, there is a reason majority of western elderly die alone and abandoned rotting away in old folks homes.

And having no fall back on faith and prayer, living in a consumer heavy hyper commercialised world is the reason there is rampant depression and anxiety among people in the west with very little life satisfaction.

Again the post would make this off topic but most of the refugees in the west are from nations that were once prosperous and self-sufficient and looted, raped, pillaged and left destitute by the West following their expansionism during the Industrial Era.
