It’s true. Iran’s biggest diplomatic blunder is to not rely on China. I’ve mentioned that we are in a bi-polar world, not a multipolar world. Every country needs the trust of US or China. Pakistan’s most consequential policy is to work with China. And Putin realize that only China can keep him alive. The Iranian leadership is unwise to not understand this fact.

To be honest, China from a decade ago was quite weak compared to it is now.

And I don't think any country during that period had the faith that China could truly challenge the US, let alone surpass it.
