Iran helped Pakistan because they had economic strength and an official military alliance pact with Pakistan (CENTO). Pakistan now has neither economic strength nor a military alliance pact with Iran. We bought HQ 9 for billions of dollars while just a few weeks ago we needed just $1 billion from IMF. The 'Denuclearization' of Iran has always been a red-herring, said by Israel for decades--decades. Iran has been dithering about a nuclear weapon and I honestly don't think Iran has a realistic path to be a nuclear weapon state: It dithered too long for ideological and technical reasons. A look at what it took Pakistan to become a nuclear state starting early 70s would be instructive about Iran's chances--or lack of chances.
What Netanyahu REALLY wanted was an Iran without ANY nuclear capabilities beyond medical treatments but more than that, Netanyahu also wanted Iran to dismantle Iran's missile program altogether and all that under the watchful eyes of the Americans.
