Hitting US makes things difficult for the current American administration. Trump's own base didn't want these strikes - because they don't want another war.

If Iran doesn't hit back, Trump is somewhat safe. If Iran does hit back and Americans die - Trump's own base will turn against him - because he would be blamed for causing it.

I don't think Iran has much choice left. Either hit back, or keep taking it - I think there will be more strikes.

In my opinion, Iran’s leadership seriously misjudged how far the collective West is willing to go to protect its interests and keep the Global South under its control. They completely underestimated the level of ruthlessness - and how little things like international law or justice really matter when world domination is at stake. Let’s be honest, places like the Hague mostly go after poor African nations or weaker countries from the Global South.

Before Gaza, maybe you could excuse some of that naïveté. But after everything that’s happened over the past two years, it's hard to understand how they could still believe in “good faith” negotiations with the so-called "Great Satan." That kind of passivity and trust borders on delusional at this point.

Sure, blame falls on the entire leadership - everyone from the Supreme Leader to the IRGC. But honestly, the reformists stand out as the biggest dumbfvcks. They were desperate to get back to the table with the US, even under Trump - the guy who literally tore up the JCPOA. That level of desperation was always going to backfire.

At the end of the day, Occam's Razor probably applies: the simplest explanation is usually the right one. No need for grand conspiracies. Sometimes, leaders and systems are just flawed, weak, and make bad decisions. A lot of them.
