I think there is some dissonance here and particularly the claim of "85%".
The inflation is the lowest ever (meaning affordability is as good as it has ever been in Pakistan and this is backed up by local and foreign sourced data and I do NOT credit the current government for it as a lot of external factors are at play here as well). Anecdotally speaking, the markets and restaurants are packed with consumers and weddings, even those of lower middle and middle class, are fairly opulent events.
I certainly think there is dire poverty in Pakistan but I think we need a better gauge instead of these anecdotal interviews. The way questions are posed to people, the demographic that is asked such questions, all of these have a hand in painting the picture a particular way.
Pakistan received near $39 billion remittance last FY 2024-25. Thats almost 10% of GDP.
People who receive remittance are good. People who have successful businesses are good.
People who depend on salary or daily wages suffered since 2018 era of devaluation. Taking debt and not putting it in to good use was huge disaster. Establishment popularity is all time low because of constant devaluation of currency.
No matter who rule get out of IMF cycle and never go back in.
