We had one channel, Govt owned. And a holiday on Tuesdays (I think it was Tuesdays). I am sure the TV station shut down on Tuesdays but nobody else seems to remember it? Maybe it was a false memory?
TV used to start every day at around 5:30 in the afternoon with this HORRIBLY MELANCHOLY tune.
After the lady coming on ... the "Announcer" and boring us with the schedule for the the night's viewing, we got a dose of religion and then a cartoon. And then some American or Pak half an hour show... like Lassie or Daktari or some such. At 8, we got the show of the evening. Either a hit drama (usually boring for me) or something like Star Trek. Movies were once a week late at night. Other nights ended with music. Sometimes a visiting orchestra would make an appearance.
It's all a blur... my memory has been added to much and everything inside got mixed with everything else. Sometimes I forget which name I'm supposed to use today. So if I am getting some details wrong, please don't jump down my throat.
Much appreciated.
The TV transmission ended with the national anthem with a Pak flag flying on a flag pole. We visited the TV station once and saw the flag pole for ourselves. It was a knitting needle in front of a desktop fan.
Oh... and the ads. A TON of ads. If the Govt was making money from all these ads, why were they charging us a fee??? Greedy buggers.
Enjoy everyone:
The Saints Go Marching, was known as the shoe polish song here. God forgive us.
