I think color broadcasts weren't the real problem compared to the cost of a color TV.

For instance in the US networks started broadcasting some events in color in the 1950's...however the cost of a color TV back then was insane...so few people saw it.

Around 1966 all 3 networks switched to color during "prime time" (8-11pm Eastern)
However again due to color tv's costs few saw it.

Color didn't outsell black and white ones until the early 1970s.

So likely the reason for color tv introduction in Pakistan ~1976 had to do with the price finally coming down.

Not only that live transmission of sports events was expensive also in those days.

I think something like the cost of the color films was a factor in case of Pakistan.

Can remember watching the 1980 "Miracle On Ice" Hockey Olympics on a small black and white TV set.

That was the one where the USA beat Russia.

The one color TV set was in the living room.

I watched the game on the family color in the living room. That didn't seem so long ago (ugh 45 years).

Seems to me we still had to beat Finland for the gold. So I wasn't jumping up and down over the Soviet win at the time.

The US only won 6 golds and I remember this guy getting the other 5 of them. He was single handedly carrying the entire 1980 US Olympic Team.

Neither did I.

Did the entire Detroit to Yellowstone to Dallas and back up to Michigan vacation with my 8-track, listening to Bob Seger, Peter Framton, and the Bay City Rollers when I was twelve.

It was that or the county stations my father was playing.
