Why do i get the feeling that since Indians occupied 50-70% of H1B visas even though they are no where near that percentage of international students in USA or global population, Trump did this precisely to screw many of them over so that over the next year when many would be re-applying for extension or re-petitions hundreds of thousands of Indians will have to leave creating vacuum of jobs, mostly in IT which will then be taken up by Americans.

Seems one more reason why Trump has been pissed at Modi since May 7th..........

The MAGA crowd have spoken their displeasure over the H1-B visa policy. They want these jobs and who can blame them.

There are many issues where Modi and Trump don't see eye to eye. Trump is very different to the feeble politicians in the US. He wants to protect US interests and workers at all cost. Who can blame the guy. Be rest assured that the Indians would have milked the US had the Democrats been in power. It is the Democrats that have undermined US interests all these years.

look H1B, is not really a news in India!

H1b is only news for their Brahman class, who notably insist they have white skin!

What is your intent?
200-300 million is the upper middle class population of Indian.
300-400 million is lower middle class.

Poor/lower vulnerable income is the rest around 300 million. India spends a lot to give free food and other subsidize to them.

The middle class is the driving force behind the nation. It's the salaried classes taxes which is moving everything.

You essentially have 200-400 million people in India with a lot of liquid money and more discretionary power to buy.

Why won't Indians line up to buy the latest Iphone? Now given easy access to credit people from the lower strata too purchase iphones.

You don't have inequality in Pakistan in proportion to your population or what? It's just that India has a very high population.

I'm not sure about the exact numbers. Those were just from top of my mind.
We have the data from 2011 census for now. The ratio follows old data. New study is yet to be done. Also 2/3rd of the population is eligible for the ration, not just extremely poor. It's a safety net thing. Lower middle class is covered.

200-250 million is the affluent upper middle class population though. That's what I meant to highlight in my comment.

Now for poor/boderline poor my numbers can be way off.

H1B is mostly taken by south Indian states. In 90's USA decided to give India jobs and investment and trade preference in expense of their own so one day India will be their strategic partner.

South Indian states were poorest in India, well behind even UP/Bihar. Then huge amount of remittance, investment started flowing in and now Tamil Nadu GDP per capita is like 5x times then Bihar. Its these dravidian states that will suffer the must if India doesn't reach a trade deal with USA.

You are probably right about offshoring. The misuse of H1Bs is another topic though. But then, in all honesty, any other country, including Pakistan, would grab the opportunity like India has.
All that doesnt' mean I don't resent the H1Bs for my purely personal reasons! I want another 6 figure job and NOW! Hahaha!
