H-1B visas must end’: Wife of US citizen shares plight of landing IT jobs

A solution is on hand. Are US STEM graduates willing to take a paycut and replace H1Bs?

For new graduates in America, they need to get the 'experience' first and that won't even be offered because the H1B and offshoring scams deny many graduates such opportunities. A new graduate, even with CS degree, is struggling. It would be better for them to be just 'employed' getting a $50k job then to be unemployed and living with their parents.
PS. I was out till early morning hours today at a bonfire gathering where there were ALL WASPs young men and women; they are so fed up that 'civil war' was talked about to rebel against the elites here. Granted, they had some libations to free their tongues but rebellion was on their mind. I think they didn't resort to racism as they were generally polite to ignore just one lone non-white guy among them.

Funny seeing indian bot accounts turning against trump and far right on X

And you are not sending your 'very best'. You are sending everyone who could get away from India. Please don't kid yourself!! But I don't blame India anymore than I would blame Pakistan for trying to export its VERY surplus labor!!
I don't know your definition of the "best ", but, as someone close to the situation, I can certainly attest that the vast majority of the top ranked students from the top-ranked schools, generally very highly correlated with IQ, have been moving abroad to pursue careers for decades. Some are directly hired by foreign companies including American ones on H1Bs and others pursue higher education abroad and stay on.

Even the lower end of the H1B candidates, who dont get hired directly from India and go to lower ranked US schools, are generally better than the average graduate staying on in India .

The whole premise is a snark on the pro h1b side

Of course young graduates will be willing to get any relevant job vs having no income at all

On the same token, why are young Indians willing to do the same in another country?

Some cheek.....

Yes, young American graduates would take any job just to get their careers started and get some 'experience'. Look at Glass Door site to see the frustrations of highly qualified American graduates. So this is a bogus claim by Indians that Americans don't get STEM degrees and Americans don't want to work on 'low' wages.

As to why Indians escape India, I can't believe some Indians above are denying that and calling it 'brain drain'. As I said above, the sky doesn't go dry for long because it rained a bit. How delusional they are. I get it that they want to present India positively but they are either delusional or outright misrepresenting the reality. Indians desperate want to leave India and the 'many' going back to India is far offset by a much larger number trying to escape India using whatever means possible, including taking the very dangerous route through Mexico.

@Meengla sb

they are so fed up that 'civil war' was talked about to rebel against the elites here.

Tell your young WASP friends that there have been civil wars against the elite in Egypt, BD, Nepal and many other places and things have gone from bad to worse. Advise them to spend more time on work and picking up new skills than on boozing, sleeping around and wondering they are boys, girls or a bit of both.

Regards

And how many years did you live in India before you reached that conclusion ?
Irrelevant. Just ask any Indian diaspora abroad if they would like to return to India and do the same job they do abroad.

This holds true for tech bros, engineers, healthcare professionals, toilet cleaners. Not one of them will willingly take the same job up in India compared with any Western or Middle Eastern country. It also holds true whether the individual is born and raised in that foreign land or they have just arrived across the Mexican border.

In fact, in a conversation last week, several Indians that I know personally (all born and raised in UK) are all looking for work in the middle east because the UK has become such a hole of late.

To be fair though, UAE is a colony of Delhi nowadays.

America and western societies will never go command economy like Eastern society's might

They will therefore always make space for the fine arts or humanities graduate

That therefore means structurally, America will always always need foreign born scientific experts, and within that a good many Indians will fit the bill

But this visa scheme was never meant to prejudice or skew their workforce to deny entry level or further mid-level development to American citizens

So you clearly have a problem when American stem graduates are not landing into silicon valley but Indian graduates are plotting their future in America

This is the structural and societal issue that Indians really ought to be more sympathetic to for their own good
The largest consumers of H1B visas are American IT companies. https://www.uscis.gov/tools/reports-and-studies/h-1b-employer-data-hub

9 of the top 10 are American.

The blowback against Indian companies for H1B visa has been happening for a long time. Long before Trump and MAGA. Albeit at a lower intensity. And the Indian companies have taken steps to mitigate it. Majority of employees in the US offices of Indian IT companies are Americans. And the heavy lifting is done back in India.

It is the American companies that need to be sympathetic. The people who are going to be hit hardest are the H1B visa holders and the American corporates. The Indian IT companies are going to be able to weather this storm. They will take a hit but it is not all gloom and doom.

Which is why Indian graduates are always looking for the American dream

Can you imagine anyone telling Indian parents that their children don't need entry level jobs back in India?

I guess Indians are really used to pulling a fast one 😂

Okay sir, I will tell them next time I see them! But it was probably just idle talk with loose tongues, which libations often do.
PS. The blonde was hot!

I am not talking about toilet cleaners, dunki immigrants or those running gas stations, motels and convenience stores, but I know several graduates of schools like IITs, IIMs, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Columbia MIT, Cambridge , Oxford, LSE and the like, who have chosen to return to India after having worked in the US or the UK.

Having lived in London many years back, I can say the UK was always a hell-hole, but it has certainly become much worse after Cameron's disastrous Brexit gamble and the Theresa May/BoJo clown show that followed. I have the sincerest sympathy for friends who are stuck there.

Just because many take the worthless psychology, Russian Studies, or Gender Studies courses doesn't mean that there are still tens of thousands of very qualified, very smart young American graduates in STEM every year but they are being thwarted more and more by the Goddamn corporations to even start their careers!
Those goddamn corporations are American corporations that are taking a bulk of the H1B visas. The gods of the corporations is profit maximizing and expense minimizing. They are simply following their religion.
They might just be very inefficient, therefore they better be willing to put in more hours 😀
Bottom line is the same amount of work gets done much cheaper if you hire a H1B rather than an American.

We all know that H1B was conceptualized to get the best talent from abroad and it is not doing that. It is being used to get work done cheap. But that is how corporations work.

For new graduates in America, they need to get the 'experience' first and that won't even be offered because the H1B and offshoring scams deny many graduates such opportunities.
I don't know why you are calling offshoring a scam. It is a business model. No one is getting cheated. You do not call China manufacturing a scam because it is creating goods at a cheaper rate.

You are probably right about offshoring. The misuse of H1Bs is another topic though. But then, in all honesty, any other country, including Pakistan, would grab the opportunity like India has.
All that doesnt' mean I don't resent the H1Bs for my purely personal reasons! I want another 6 figure job and NOW! Hahaha!
