Yes, but a BAE/TAI bid where the Brits are able to customize the avionics to their liking is more advantageous, it can even be offered as an EJ200 engined variant. That way you are offsetting your purchases by production from your own domestic industry. The Italians cannot offer something similar. Turkey already beat the M-346 in the Spanish bid. It makes all the sense in the world IMO, the only reason I think it comes up short is as the tweet says, it being a political decision.
The chatter on UK defence forums is that Italy/Japan/UK are looking to create a standardised interoperable training pipeline for GCAP and a common M-346 syllabus would be part of that pipeline.
Anything can happen, but i think the odds are low for Hurjet.
