There is a potential internal threat to at least one of the The Two Holy Mosques, for which Pakistan's help may once again be needed by Saudi Arabia . This internal threat while understood by both Saudi Arabia and Pakistan has received little attention in the international media.
There are 2.5 million largely Hindu Indian ex-pat laborers resident in Saudi Arabia.. With the rise of global Hindutva these are a dangerous de-stabilizing factor. The situation could potentially develop into much like the Sri Lankan Tamils who were brought into Sri Lanka as plantation laborers and later on became a force of their own. The Hindu Indian diaspora once concerned solely towards employment and remittances is now infected with Hindutva exceptionalism. While cultural aggressiveness in Western countries is limited to displays of religious processions, festivals and "no beef " demands there are no overtly religious factors associated with disputed or claimed houses of worship. Saudi Arabia is different. In a warped state sponsored manipulation of wording and interpretation of mythology, a sizable majority of Indian Hindus are now openly laying claim to the Kaaba.
Social media viral messages now circulating are claiming the Kaaba Holy mosque as a Hindu temple to Lord Shiva as Makkeshwar. The Hijr Aswad is being portrayed as a Shiv Ling.
A background:
The current Hindutva ideology is to claim the site of every significant mosque as a former Hindu temple calling for a "Survey ". In 1992 a 16th century Babri mosque in Northern India was demolished by a mob of just 250,000 in the full presence of heavily armed police and paramilitary personnel despite a Supreme Court ruling to preserve the status quo. .In the pre-Internet social-media era it took three years to build up the religious frenzy supported and financed by the global Indian diaspora with a complex build uo of propaganda using posters, multiple rallies, processions, street corner speeches print media and TV networks .
Today with the help of mobile device supported social media this state of mob frenzy can be replicated far more easily in any country of choice.
A social media generated uprising of ex-pat labor to capture the Kaaba shrine and rename it is not far that fetched. Mecca has been captured before and the Hijr Aswad stolen . This happened when the Qarmatians captured and sacked Mecca in 930 C.E. There was no Hajj for decades until the Qarmatians were driven out and the Hijr Aswad recovered.
The good news is that a Pakistani contingent can easily beat off an ex-pat uprising. if India wishes to avenge any losses to its expat labor by opening another front against Pakistan, then the Defence pact clause "attack on one is an attack on both " will come into effect.
