Pitchers with most K's in postseason game​


Here are some of the best individual efforts on the mound in playoff history -- the pitchers with the most strikeouts in a postseason game.
1. Bob Gibson, Cardinals: 17 K's
Game 1, 1968 World Series
The opening game of the World Series in 1968 was about as epic a pitching matchup as they come: Gibson, coming off the historic 1.12 ERA season that won him the National League Cy Young Award and the NL MVP Award, against the Tigers' Denny McLain, who swept the same awards in the American League after going 31-6 in baseball's last 30-win season. Gibson won the duel with a stunning masterpiece -- a 17-strikeout shutout that broke Koufax's single-game postseason record set in Game 1 of the 1963 Fall Classic. It was the most strikeouts the St. Louis legend ever recorded in a game, and one of the iconic performances of his career, along with winning Game 1, 4 and 7 of the 1967 World Series against the Red Sox.

2. Kevin Brown, Padres: 16 K's
Game 1, 1998 NL Division Series
In his prime, Brown was one of the top pitchers in baseball, and he was a huge get for the Padres in offseason of 1997. In his first year with San Diego, Brown helped pitch the Padres to the World Series. The right-hander started San Diego's postseason run with a dominant win over Houston on the road in Game 1 of the NLDS -- outpitching none other than Randy Johnson. Brown shut out the Astros for eight innings at the Astrodome, allowing just two hits and striking out 16 (including Jeff Bagwell once and Craig Biggio twice), the most by anyone in a postseason game since Gibson and the Division Series record.

8. (tie) Tarik Skubal, Tigers: 14 K's
Game 1, 2025 ALWC
Skubal put forth one of the best starts of his career in the opener of the Tigers' 2025 American League Wild Card Series against the division-rival Guardians. The 2024 AL Cy Young Award winner struck out a career-high 14 batters and allowed only three hits and one run over 7 2/3 innings. Just three batted balls left the infield against Skubal, and only one of those went for a hit -- a single in the second inning. Skubal's K total equaled Detroit's postseason record, established by Joe Coleman in the 1972 ALCS.

Phillies and Cubs both hold on.

In the NHL, Montreal lost to Toronto. LAK and VGK are tied up at the 2nd intermission at 3 apiece.

The 1945 World Series was won by the Detroit Tigers, who defeated the Chicago Cubs in seven games to claim their second championship in franchise history. The Tigers won the series 4-3, with the deciding Game 7 played on October 10, 1945.

I gave a big Cubs fan, years ago, a baseball from that series that once belong to my grandfather's cousin who was a third base coach for the Cubs in that series.

Best decade when it came to movies, tv shows/series, music, sports and just entertainment it all came together in the 80s. The 80s was sooo awesome that many kids today have nostalgia for a decade they weren't even alive due to listening to 80s muic and watching movies from that decade.

Once a year or once every other year when I'm alone and take a drive and I start feeling nostalgia I'll drive to my childhood neighborhood where I lived from 2 years of age until I was 16 and just reminisce. Of course the neighborhood doesn't look the same it has become ghetto with bunch of mexicans making them 100% of the population in that area but back then it was typical 80s suburb neighborhood that looked like the Poltergeist and E.T movie suburb neighborhood. We didn't have homes across our street but open hilly field 2 miles long and a mile wide where the neighborhood kids would ride bikes or have adventure. Now that open field is occupied by low-income apartments and the street is crowded with cars.

This was so f*cking depressing. Your video hit a raw chord. With me!
Not because of the 80's, but the realisation that today is so freaking horrible.
I fondly remember the 80's like you brother The music was so much better than the garbage of today.
The TV and movie's were so much better.
I feel heartbroken for today's youth. Oh and in the 80's - and we did it all without the internet, google, facebook, twitter....
