JF-17 PFX program

It is possible - the PAF could be looking for a stop gap to fill in numbers and do a KF-21 type situation with less effort needed.

But even if this is the case it wont go beyond the 3d model to desktop wooden gift much like AZM or NASTP
A program like KF-21 seems unrealistic. But what about evolving JF17 like the Japanese evolved F-16 into the Mitsubishi F-2? Or would the benefit-cost ratio be too low?

Hopefully a replacement for the JF-17 Fleet, over the next 15 years, to fill the need for a modern backbone fighter. The first JF-17 airframes are going to have close to 20 years on them soon enough, and swapping out the engine on those older airframes as well as all the other modification work would probably justify a clean sheet design.
Makes no sense tbh, when you are looking at a 15 20 year timeline, stopgaps dont come into play. You either start a new program (of your own given the time frame) os start looking for replacements down the line (maybe 10 years from now). Stopgaps are short term, 5 6 years turnaround time, not 15 years. So that still leaves the question unanswered - stopgap for what? Either its a new program or nothing, imo.

Here is an article published almost 3 months ago that reads like a script of this video. It mentions the "PFX-JF-17" as well. Apparently, the author is part of this "modernisation" effort that PAF has undertaken.

Another reference to the PFX program:

"Expanding on the experience of JF-17 and deepening defence ties with Turkey, PAF is currently working on another fighter program called ‘PFX’. The program is in the advanced design stage and will incorporate all futuristic capabilities being developed at different NASTP centres." AVM M Z FAISAL

@Quwa @JamD What is going on, guys?

It's KAAN modified according to our needs.

Interesting... Is what JF17-PFX could be? The only thing JF plat form can probably benefit from is a new engine and some stealth coatings for reduced RCS. Is PAF looking to acquire engines being developed for TAI Kaan?

For it to be worth it, it needs to optimize the design for the new more powerful WS-19 engine; 110-120 kn max thrust. Optimize in such a way that the rear of the plane’s design maximizes the use of the thrust and doesn’t hinder air flow, leading to Supercruise capability, or generally maximum effective thrust at what ever thrust level.

Therefore, I think it will be an “evolutionary” design. In the way the Gripen NG is an evolution of the Gripen C, and the Super Hornet is an evolution of the Hornet, a JF-17E/F Super Thunder could be a Lower-RCS version of the JF-17 design with recessed weapons stations not internal bays like the 4.5 gen KF-21. Probably also with the landing gear further out as on the Gripen NG. The only way it could be considered a stop gap is that the Air Force needs ever improving capabilities and the J-31 and KAAN aren’t ready yet, and there is also the need to keep Kamra open, so basically a Block 4 design by another name.

Hopefully a design some what similar to the fan-art designs we saw all those years ago “JF-20” 😉

The key is keep costs down, to around $25 million an air frame, so it fills the bill requirement of many air forces, especially as a loyal wingman in an unmanned version. The Gripen NG is done in by its $85 million price tag.

The PAF needs a plane purpose build around taking on and beating the bulk of the Indian Air Force including the “Super Sukhoi”, and reduced signatures is one way of doing it.

It's KAAN. PFX will be a modified KAAN for us.

Maybe, who knows how the technology and warfare will evolve in 20 years, the low end of the spectrum may be made up of semi stealth 4.5 gen jets. In which case this JF pfx might be they way to go, but i highly doubt that. A mass produced JF pfx will defeat the purpose of JF-17 - cheap multi role fighter. I dont think JF pfx will be cheap in anyway and mass producing that will take away funds from Kaan or j31. Planes like jf17 and lca will stay for a long time, more than just 40 years from now.

So why the JF-17 ahead of the name and the image of a JF-17 in a wind tunnel?
PAF playing their confusing game as usual. Just someone made a slide in fast speed. It's KAAN program modified for us.

I meant in terms of design idea - quasi LO

JF-17 PFX has now been mentioned in three reports that are months apart.
