A policeman was martyred while three were injured on Sunday when their vehicle, part of a convoy escorting dignitaries from 12 countries, was caught in an explosion on Malam Jabba Road in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district, police said.

Swat Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Muhammad Ali Khan told Dawn.com that delegations from Indonesia, Portugal, Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Turkmenistan, Vietnam, Iran, Russia, and Tajikistan were a part of the convoy.

“As a result of the blast, Constable Burhan has embraced martyrdom, while three other policemen, including Sub-Inspector Sar Zameen, Constable Amanullah, and Constable Habib Gul, have sustained injuries,” Khan said.

He added that a heavy contingent of police had reached the incident site and relief work was underway, adding that the affected area had been cordoned off, while the police had started a search operation to look for suspects.

“All the ambassadors remained safe in the attack and had been shifted to a safe place before their departure to Islamabad,” the DIG told Reuters.

The diplomats were visiting the area at the invitation of a local chamber of commerce.

No one has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, the Russian Embassy in Islamabad took to the X platform and announced that the vehicle leading the diplomats’ convoy “hit a mine” in Mingora.

“On September 22, Ambassador Albert P. Khorev, along with several other Ambassadors, took part in the Swat Tourism Summit organised by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry,” the embassy said.

“On the way to the hotel from the town of Mingora in Khyber Pakhtunkwa, an escort vehicle hit a mine. Several policemen were injured, diplomats were not harmed.”

"We don't have any job, give us jobs"

People come who could possibly help bring jobs or trade or change to a area and what do they do? Try to kill people

Then they complain that all the development and opportunities go to Punjab

We'll of course they do you dangar, that's because the people there are more receptive to trade and development and don't try to murder the first person who looks different

Calling the people there lanati cave men is a understatement

Man these tribals have destroyed KP big time!

They’ve destroyed their society and in a way that the future of KP seems very bleak indeed

The Afghans need crushing poverty and degradation to be in a controllable state, otherwise they will just cause endless fassad

We are heading to a state where it's pointless trying to lift these people up or provide services

They kill health workers trying to safeguard children
We have polio still because Afghans kill polio workers and their guards

The levels of sheer jahilat amongst Afghans and these border communities is STUNNING

Just out of curiosity, what were these diplomats and their Pakistanis handlers thinking of sending them to KPK parts where the is lack of law and order.

Now that I think about, I recall in my last trip to Pakistan, even Lahore and Skardu were dangerous for foreign VIPs. In Lahore, I had Chinese business people in my hotel who were trying to move to a Chinese secured hotel and I watched them wait in the lobby for hours because the the Lahore police didn’t arrive to escort them. Their Pakistani contact told me. The Pakistani was the business contact. Nice guy and basically in our conversation told me a lot of the behind the scene stuff - which was shocking. Same in skardu. Had foreign military dignitaries (Arabs and Americans), on my flight and when I landed in skardu, all of these guys were escorted to a hotel downtown. My Gilgit driver told me the security isn’t the best and there were threats made against the guests. There is a very deliberate targeting of foreign business people and military personnel. Whoever is sponsoring these attacks is deliberately targeting Pakistans economy hoping that it never gets out of the current crisis.

I don’t want to say this given how much I hate the military in Pakistan, but this seems like the Indians are behind it, likely using afghan territory. This policy is causing Pakistan and Afghanistan to have enmity while destroying Pakistan.

The taliban aren’t monolithic politically, so it’s easy to buy off certain warlords or commanders. Pakistan needs a comprehensive policy to deal with this, not just trying to pin everyone on the afghan government. It needs to be surgical strikes to remove the poison, while supporting pro Pakistan taliban commanders. After all, many had or have families in Pakistan and don’t desire to reunite KPK with Afghanistan.
