No, China still needs lots of 052D for blue water open seas and oceans operations. 055 are not going to be built as numerous as 052D.

No, China still needs lots of 052D for blue water open seas and oceans operations. 055 are not going to be built as numerous as 052D.

China is planning to build more than 60 Type 052D destroyers, but it could be eventually surpassed 100 units of this class.

The Type 055 is also going to be numerous, maybe not as much as the Type 052D or AB class Aegis destroyers, but still a lot of more compared to other destroyer classes.

I think they still need to make a bigger design, around ~16000 tons.

- Larger and more advanced radar for anti-ballistic capability
- Increase number of VLS cells from 112 to 128
- Integrated electric propulsion
- Shipboard laser
- Stealthier hull

The cost of 055 is still high. 052D is cheaper to make for sure. 16 055 should be good enough for defending China in the next 10 years of so.

055 and Type 054B will eventually replace Type 052D and Type 054A

These Chinese manufacturing standards have come a long way. It's probably one of the cleanest-cut ships I've seen.
