Al - Haider VT-4 MBT - The Premier PA Ground Asset [Developments]

The damage on the right side of the tank, with exposed tracks suggests combat damage?
Unlikely perhaps it received prior damage but the barrel being blown basically clean off and the optics being destroyed suggest a barrel explosion.
Thai soldiers confirmed that the tank had been firing over 200 rounds of ammunition at a high rate without any cleaning, maintenance, or upkeep. This caused the gun barrel to explode.

This is a consequence of excessive use and is not a normal occurrence.

They were very satisfied with the VT-4 tank's performance in actual combat.
So have Thai M48s, M60s and T-84s, the first two are literally ancient, I remember comments from some Thai tankers about the VT-4 having a really short barrel life

Thai soldiers released the operating manual for their VT-4 tanks, which states that the gun barrel has a lifespan of 500 rounds. However, it requires proper maintenance and upkeep.

However, this tank experienced a barrel explosion after firing 200 rounds consecutively without any maintenance or upkeep. This is the result of abnormal use.

This is similar to the standard rifles used by soldiers. Their barrels actually have a long lifespan. However, in high-intensity warfare scenarios, soldiers cannot perform maintenance during combat, and the barrel life is significantly reduced.

I couldn't find the info on how many rounds the tank can carry. Do you know?

There could be numerous reasons for the gun to explode.... But never a good publicity... Thailand has deployed both T-84-Oplots and VT-4 tanks

Does Thai Army not have OPSEC? Dude's just recording tiktoks inside a modern tank showing all the sights

This guy gives us a better insight as to why the barrel might have exploded. I also found one of the original posts from facebook...

This is tik tok generation, v hard to resist and enforce opsec... I used to look for videos on x.. realized there's a lot of material on TikTok as compared to twitter or Facebook...

Gun barrels exploding is metallurgical issue......not necessary maintenance issue......

This was the same issue with soviet guns........no wonder Sweden still commands a respectable repute in this field......it is very very difficult to get metallurgy right for such equipment.

In terms of metallurgy, perhaps after Gas Turbine/Jet Engines compressor/turbine stage blades metallurgy, getting large gun barrels metallurgy is the most difficult challenge in modern industry.

Gunner pov... Does the compartment get this smokey usually ?

this could also mean, tank's gun can only perform well in cooler climates!

further, pricing, servicing and maintenance with Chinese weapons could an issue

The service life of the gun barrels of Western main battle tanks such as the M1A2 and Leopard 2 is 500 rounds. Russian tank gun barrels have a service life of approximately 200-300 rounds. The British Challenger 2 tank has an even shorter lifespan (150-200 rounds). The VT-4 tank's gun barrel has a lifespan of 500 rounds.
The test results for the barrel lifespan of the Type 99A main battle tank used by the PLAGF showed a lifespan of 700 rounds.

This data is what I found through my search. I'm not a professional in this field. I remember that a member of this forum is a specialist in Pakistani tanks; perhaps he can provide an answer.

This data was obtained according to standard operating procedures. Cleaning and maintenance were required during the process.

After each firing, the inside of the tank's gun barrel experiences erosion and accumulates trace amounts of residue. These effects, when accumulated over time, can have a significant impact. All tank maintenance manuals specify that cleaning and maintenance are required after each use. Generally, cleaning and maintenance are needed after one full cycle of ammunition is fired. In special circumstances, it can be extended to about 100 rounds before cleaning and maintenance are required. (Training rounds are an exception, as they contain significantly less propellant than live ammunition.)

In this incident in Thailand, the tank had fired more than 200 rounds consecutively...

The crew (users) didn’t make the mistake, their stupid superiors ordering them to fire that volume of shots , made the mistake. They didn’t let the tank barrel cool down, firing rapid salvos until it overheated and failed this is all down to poorly trained Cambodia military in their equipment how to use it properly.
