Balakot Hydropower Project -300MW

Pakistan major issue electricity bills. According to Shahbaz Rana, Pakistan officially will be producing above 60000 mw in 2031 and if solar adoption rate is not reduce than at least 30000 mz of solar via net metering would be adopted. It means that all village, most of the urban and towns would be on solar in Pakistan. Therefore, grid system would collapse and power plants cannot be shutdown like factories or store that is why still Pakistan is running plants that were made in 1960s. In short Pakistan has to export electricity to other countries and nego ipps.

That electricity in 2031 will be cheap as its mustly hydro and solar. Debt of CPEC power plants will be paid off so capacity charges will be reduced by half.

So its up to Pakistan to work on attracting investment in heavy industry which require grid electricity. 5GW data centers, aluminium smelter, copper refinery etc

Not really, Lucky, hubco thar projects, Thar Block 1 dues will be due beyond 2030s as they achived CoD in 2022 and later. Usually financing loan payback is up to 10 years.

Same with K2/3 Nuclear and many dams.....and their loan pay back is longer because they are not purely on IPP model.

The project team successfully completed the final concrete pouring of the intake chamber for the diversion tunnel , a key structure that controls water flow and ensures operational safety.

To ensure high-quality construction, the team adopted an innovative “layered bottom slab + side wall” construction method, strictly controlling layer height. Raw materials underwent rigorous inspection, customized concrete mix ratios were used, and 24-hour continuous operations ensured real-time control of key indicators.

A curing period of over 14 days further guaranteed durability and compliance.
With this milestone now achieved, the project team is moving ahead with the next stages, working steadily toward the successful water diversion target.

Balakot Hydropower Project – Construction Progress Update

The Balakot Hydropower Project continues to make steady progress as work advances on this important renewable energy development.

These latest images highlight the scale of construction and the dedication of engineers, technicians, and workers transforming the project's vision into reality.

Once completed, the project will contribute clean, reliable electricity to Pakistan's national grid while supporting economic growth and reducing carbon emissions.

The Balakot Hydropower Project is the largest hydropower project currently being developed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Energy and Power Development Authority (PEDO).

With an installed capacity of 300 MW, the project will help alleviate power shortages, increase the share of clean energy in Pakistan's energy mix, and support sustainable development in the region.

Construction officially commenced on 2nd December 2022.

with solar revolution producing b/w 23,000 and 25,000 MW daily in Pakistan. All new power projects should be canceled, and the focus should be on improving distribution.
