Bangladesh plans $2.2b purchase of 20 Chinese J-10 fighter jets

Let the Chinese worry about that. Let's see if they sell us the jets. You are probably not well versed in current BD armed forces apparatus.

We would now look on Indians, who have been claiming that 2 Rafales are enough for Bangladesh 🕳️

The first press release has been released. Currently, only the official Chinese version is available; there is no official English version yet. If you would like to read the full content, please translate it yourself.

My conclusions:
1. The entire text is filled with polite language, containing no substantive content.
2. There is no text involving military matters.

This J10 deal news, if really true, doesn't necessarily have to be announced in this particular trip.

The most important parts of this trip are -

1. Prioritize ties with China with first official foreign trip. In comparison the Hasina government prioritized India with first official foreign trip.

2. Deal on Teesta barrage - extremely crucial for Bangladesh and China has shown a lot of interest in this project. India dislikes this project and forced Hasina to decline it after China conducted feasibility studies of its own funding. But it is great that this project is now back on track under new government in Bangladesh.

The latest string of online news articles on this topic are basically ragebait from Indian right wing circles.
One thing you will notice is that all the articles are basically saying the same thing without citing any credible source.

One Indian media outlet somewhere decided to recycle the news from last year and the rest are frantically copy-pasting with minor edits to catch the news cycle.
Then there are some gullible non-Indian media outlets who are citing/copying the Indian articles without conducting much due diligence.

Now, I am not saying J-10Cs are not being procured, I am saying the current media hype is not based on any concrete development in the procurement space that has been revealed to the public.

The Army wasn't trash, the military didn't have the capabilities back then to defend a province that was more than 2,200 km away.

Buzdil India hasn't been able to repeat that sort of invasion and terrorism on any of the Western provinces to date.

We will have our revenge against India sooner or later Insha'Allah.
As much as I think mujib was just a greedy power hungry traitor like bhutto... he was right on one thing... he asked for increased military presence in East Pakistan which West didnt do and hence they lost their eastern wing.

Biharis the actual victims of the whole tragedy.
Wouldn't pass it off that way when they dominated bureaucracy and civil infrastructure in East Pakistan and was very much prejudiced against bangladeshis. The reason biharis get more hate than average west pakistanis is entirely of their doing. They moved into bengal and decided only they get to have a say on what happens around here.

The biggest problem regarding the Bangladesh Air Force's intention to purchase J-10CE fighter jets is funding.

The J-10CE fighter jet is not a conventional 4th-Gen or 4.5th-Gen fighter jet. This is a point of misunderstanding for many military enthusiasts. Explaining this in detail would be quite complex.

Simply put: if the Bangladesh Air Force were to procure 24 J-10CE fighter jets and achieve full combat capability, the total cost would exceed $5 billion. Furthermore, the annual maintenance costs would also be substantial (exceeding the Bangladesh Air Force's defense budget).

China can indeed provide financial services for ultra-long-term installment payments. However, this requires many conditions. These conditions can be observed through other means, such as information from high-level exchanges between the two countries.

The way warfare is headed to, Bangladesh doesn’t need Squadrons of jets. There are other more effective & less visible options to build deterrence & security. Big powers are almost always bullies, it’s the nature of power. But they are almost always easier to manipulate too & successfull smaller powers are always more manipulative & clever. Bangladesh is clever as any other nationality or state in the region.
Time will tell. As long as bd plays its card right there's a possibility of it becoming a conventional military and economic powerhouse of the region akin to Turkey in euro Asia

May be more the affordability of their products.
Certainly change of opinions in a number of potential buying countries since the May 7, 2025 Indo-Pak aerial war. Strange India still wants to buy Rafales maybe because it has no choice.

No it wouldn't. Fighter jets, sustainment, weapons and training all would be managed just under $3 billions. From leaked documents, Pakistani deal was around $1.8 billions for 20 Jets and associated systems.

Furthermore, the annual maintenance costs would also be substantial (exceeding the Bangladesh Air Force's defense budget).

No, because initial purchase includes spares and sustainment of jets for several years (usually 5 years).

And even after BD ordering the jets, the delivery will likely take 4/5 years to complete. Hence only after 8/9 years, annual maintenance cost will impact BAF defense budget. By that time BD's economy will be sizably bigger than today, and so will be the AF's defense budget.

Bangladesh should sign a long term deal with deferred payments and get around 100 of them, and some 50 JF-17s

In the new political environment where international law and rules matter less, Bangladesh has to be able to defend itself against a fascist India.
