They even used to sew female genitalia. Even today, they burn the women alive for not meeting dowry demands. Honor killing of women is a thing that happens very often in india.

The demand may have been ludicrous, but the French weren’t held at gunpoint and forced to remove female staff from a world famous tourist sites. If they chose to accommodate such a ridiculous request, perhaps they’re the ones you should be asking to explain that decision.
