Perhaps, but let's check history:

Could anybody be sure which side would prevail in this crucial battle
before it happened?
The US is expanding its offensive and defensive capability and options in response to Chinese military advances. The US Navy has demonstrated the capability to intercept drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles in Red Sea but Russian Navy lost several ships to similar threats in Black Sea and Chinese Navy has not tested its ships in a conflict situation. The US Navy can also use
SM-2 and
SM-6 missiles and
jet fighters to intercept Chinese jet fighters if necessary. Both the US Navy and the US Air Force are also equipping aircraft with
LRASM which might be the most advanced and survivable anti-ship cruise missile.
"LRASMs already offer a high degree of survivability thanks to their stealth design and highly autonomous route-planning capability tied to an onboard electronic support measures (ESM) suite. The missiles can automatically change course in response to the sudden appearance of enemy defenses, as well as better detect their targets via their radio-frequency emissions. In addition, they use a passive imaging infrared sensor in the terminal phase of flight, which does not send out radio-frequency signals that an enemy could detect and is immune to radio-frequency jamming. It can also visually decipher different targets by comparing them to its onboard database and strike them in the most vulnerable spots."

The US Navy can also use
Tomahawk and
JASSM cruise missiles to attack Chinese military infrastructure on land. The US is also developing
LRHW to do the same.
No country including Russian forces in Syria could intercept a salvo of Tomahawk cruise missiles in a conflict situation because these missiles can blend in surface clutter to reduce detection possibilities and
bypass surface threats to reach a target. JASSM have stealth optimizations. LRHW is
MACH 17 capable in endo-atmospheric conditions, much faster than
DF-17.
"One of the AGM-158’s top features is its low-observable skin coatings and underlying structures. Its ability to weave its way through the densest of anti-air umbrellas is the key selling point for the weapon."
Chinese defenses might be better than Russian defenses but the US have thousands of advanced missiles to use in war. Therefore, it is a mistake to write-off American options in the Pacific.
China has a large military force and can overwhelm Taiwan in war in theory but it remains to be seen how Taiwan will fight and the US and Japan will support Taiwan or not. Russia could overwhelm Ukraine in war in theory but NATO made it possible for Ukrainian forces to challenge Russian forces and make it very costly for Russia to fight this war. If people in Taiwan decide to fight then they can create opportunity for the US and Japan to intervene and China will be in a bind in this situation. If not then China can win. It depends.
