China's J-20 Stealth Fighter Could Soon Be Headed to the Middle East https://nationalinterest.org/blog/b...ghter-could-soon-be-headed-middle-east-210712
The author of this article speculates that it is unfounded. I suspect that the UAE may be interested in the j20, which is a product of special circumstances and emphasizes supersonic warfare and cruising. It has functions such as long-range interception, air combat, and fighter bombing, targeting enemies that threaten China. The territory of the United Arab Emirates is not large, and deploying the J-20 to defend the country does not have a special advantage. As an offensive weapon, who should it target, Israel?Screenshot_20240425_194002_Baidu.jpg

J-20 is not for export brother just like US F-22

I think there is no precedent in China for selling heavy fighter jets. There is a difference between the J-20 and the F22. Setting aside the generation difference, its function is similar to that of the US F15,Compared to F15,It is a multi-purpose stealth heavy fighter jet,The f22 is very special, it is different from any type of aircraft in the world. Partial retirement of the f22 may not only be a cost issue, but also because it is an early design and the production line has been closed. Even if it wants to sell in the future, it has no possibility of being sold.

Sorry … but this is just pure nonsense!

Kind of strange to say the J-20 is similar to the F-15, but not similar to the F-22.

At its core, the F-15EX is essentially just a missile truck. Being a fourth generation fighter, it is not concerned about stealth requirement and is therefore able to carry missiles and munitions on its external hardpoints. The closest analogy in the PLAAF to the F-15EX is probably the J-16 (although reasonable people can disagree on that).

The F-22 on the other hand need to carry most weapons internally, because most missiles tend to compromise stealth owing in part to their spherical shape that create creeping waves. The J-20 also carry missiles in internal weapon bays, including the central bay for the PL-15 and the lateral bay for PL-10. Both the F-22 and J-20 are therefore limited in terms of weapons payload by their stealth requirement, and are quite different to the F-15EX.

The j20 not only uses built-in weapon compartments, but also has external payload points. The United States also has the f35. Our j35 currently serves the navy, and even if it has an air force version, it should still focus on air combat. Just the j16 is not enough. Compared to the f22, the j20 has to play a more important role in China. The j20 body is equipped with four heavy-duty external mounting pointsScreenshot_20240425_211604_Baidu.jpg

The J-20 has the option to mount equipment externally, but as I said that would compromise stealth and is very rare. The only time you see a J-20 with external weapons would be when the PL-10 is rotated outside of its lateral bay and ready to fire. And to be clear, the J-20 is intended for air superiority, not interception or some other missions like it is somtimes claimed.

Edit: In your photo, these equipment under the wings are external fuel tanks, not weapons. These can/will be jettisoned when stealth is prioritised.

When necessary, j20 also carry anti-ship missiles and various air to ground weapons. The United States not only has the F15ex, but also the F35, which can throw 2000 pounds of ammunition. An F-35A/C can carry up to 6 GBU-31, 2 ammunition pods, and 4 under wings, while the F-35B can carry 2 under wings.
Among the 5/4.5 fighter jets of the Chinese Air Force, only the j20 and j16 are available. If there were an Air Force version of the J-35, its weapon compartment would probably not be able to contain 2000 pounds of explosives. The J-20 is not purely an air superiority fighter,And you have to consider that China's large-scale equipment production of the j20, so the large quantity is definitely not just a function of air superiority

On May 20th, the j20 demonstrated its mobility in the city center of a certain city in China, attracting screams from onlookers. With the development of ws15, the j20 entered a rapid production stage

I assume J 20 is using a WS 10C engine? If it is true a big breakthrough is more than a match for E22 I would say it is even better because they have newer avionic and longer reach A-A missile

The Chinese military has confirmed that its J-20 stealth fighter jet can easily reach supercruise, which experts said on Monday can bring significant tactical advantages and reflect the power of China's domestically developed engines.

The J-20, a "Cross-Straits Lethality" weapon, is characterized by a high stealth capability that allows it to effortlessly penetrate a hostile air defense system, a high mobility that allows it to easily reach supercruise, and a high situational awareness that allows it to quickly identify targets and perform precision strikes, the PLA Eastern Theater Command said in a social media post on Sunday evening.

The J-20 is a sharp sword in the sky; a vanguard that leads to victory, and a go-to option in breaking down hostile defenses, the PLA Eastern Theater Command said.

In a countermeasure against Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te's separatist inaugural speech made on May 20, the PLA Eastern Theater Command conducted the Joint Sword-2024A exercises surrounding the island from Thursday to Friday, and that was when it released a set of posters themed "Cross-Straits Lethality," depicting some of its weaponry aimed at "Taiwan independence" secessionist forces, including the J-20.

Among the PLA Eastern Theater Command's descriptions of the J-20, observers highlighted the phrase "easily reaches supercruise."

Zhang Xuefeng, a Chinese military expert, told the Global Times that the J-20 can perform supercruise and has subsonic super maneuverability thanks to its unique aerodynamic design of a lifting body with strakes and canards, plus domestically developed engines.

Supercruise means that an aircraft can reach supersonic flight for an extended period without using an afterburner, another military expert who requested anonymity told the Global Times on Monday, noting that this brings important advantages in combat, including reaching advantageous combat positions faster and giving the enemy little time to react.

Being able to perform supercruise easily indicates that China's domestically developed engines are powerful, and the J-20s equipped with them now have even stronger combat capabilities, analysts said.

The J-20's conversion to use domestically developed engines was revealed at the China Airshow 2021 in Zhuhai, South China's Guangdong Province. Earlier J-20s were reportedly equipped with Russia-made engines that analysts said did not support supercruise.

Is this before or after WS-15? The older batches might have trouble.

Summary: China’s Chengdu J-20 “Mighty Dragon” is a fifth-generation stealth fighter developed by Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group. Comparable to the U.S. F-22A Raptor, the J-20 has advanced stealth features, impressive range, and a powerful weapons suite.
J-20

J-20 Fighter Jet Key Points and What You Need to Know

-It is designed for ground-attack missions and air superiority, equipped with Shenyang WS-10 engines and capable of carrying long-range and short-range missiles, anti-radiation missiles, and laser-guided bombs.

-The J-20 demonstrates China’s significant advancements in military aviation and poses a serious challenge to U.S. and allied air superiority.
China’s Chengdu J-20 “Mighty Dragon” is the country’s indigenously built fifth-generation warplane. Manufactured by the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group, this single-seat fighter is larger than America’s greatest fifth-generation warplane, the F-22A Raptor.

Interestingly, however, the J-20’s forward section is uncannily similar to that of the aforementioned F-22 Raptor. Western observers spent years denigrating the warplane, calling it a knockoff of the F-22. Others claimed that it wasn’t truly a fifth-generation warplane, as the F-22 and F-35 Lighting II are. But the Chinese proved that it was, in fact, a fifth-generation warplane. And they did it in the most frightening way.

People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) Captain Yang Jucheng of the “Wang Hai” Brigade claimed that he overflew the entire island of Taiwan and was never once intercepted. Further, it is clear that Taiwan’s otherwise sophisticated air defense tracking sensors did not see the nosy J-20 overflying their country.

Back in 2022, US Air Force General Kenneth Wilsbach reported that a squadron of F-35 Lightning II warplanes had a “professional” encounter with some J-20s over the East China Sea. Wilsbach, to his credit, did not engage in the usual chest-thumping that so many American observers do when speaking about China’s technological capabilities. Instead, the general made this stunning admission: “we’re relatively impressed with the command and control associated with the J-20.”
J-20 Fighter from China

Let’s just say that’s a tacit admission that yes, contrary to what so many so-called “experts” in the West would have you believe, the J-20 is China’s first, real stealth warplane.

This bird is designed to execute ground-attack missions for the PLAAF and it can reach higher altitudes than most other planes due to its delta-shape. The J-20 has a low radar cross-section, low jet engine intakes, canard delta configuration, diverterless supersonic inlet (DSI) V-shaped tail and tail fins.

The Mighty Dragon was powered by Saturn 117S engines provided by Russia. But, after many years of working out the kinks, China has indigenously produced the Shenyang WS-10 afterburning engine, providing 30,000 pounds of thrust, that now powers the J-20.

It is assessed that the J-20 can travel as fast as 1,533 miles per hour and that its maximum range is 3,682 miles. That’s impressive for any country.
In terms of its weapons package, the bird carries an internal cannon for closer quarter combat.

There are eight external hardpoints on this bird as well as a massive weapons bay that is enclosed to give the J-20 greater stealth. Within that massive weapons bay (for a fighter jet), the J-20 will be able to carry long-range PL-12C/D air-to-air missiles, as well as PL-21 long-range missiles.

There are two smaller weapons bays on the bird as well. From here, the plane can fire PL-10 short-range air-to-air missiles. Beyond these systems, the J-20 can carry anti-radiation missiles, air-to-surface attack patterns, and laser-guided bombs along with drop bombs.
