On March 20, Hongqi New Energy officially launched its EH7 sedan with a price range of 229,800 – 309,800 yuan (31,900 – 43,000 USD). Consumers can choose from five models. The new car is the first model of the new energy sub-brand under Hongqi. In the future, there will also be battery-swap and long-range fast-charge variants with up to 800 km range.

The Hongqi EH7 is based on the FMEs architecture. The brand claims that the front face resembles a smiling expression, conveying the optimistic attitude of the brand.
Positioned as a medium-to-large sedan, the Hongqi EH7 measures 4980/1915/1490 mm, and the wheelbase is 3000mm. The car adopts a dual color design with a black roof.

Its 1.96㎡ panoramic sunroof brings in plenty of natural light.

The Hongqi EH7 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The ternary lithium battery packs are supplied by CATL. The 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is as fast as 3.5 seconds.

Under fast charging, it takes 20 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% at room temperature, and 17 minutes from 30% to 80%. At a low temperature of -10°C, the shortest charging time from 10% to 80% is 38 minutes, and at a low temperature of 20°C, the charging time from 10% to ~80% is 48 minutes.


Inside, the irregular shaped dual screen composed of a 6-inch LCD instrument panel and a 15.5-inch central control screen is eye-catching, combined with the double-spoke flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel. An AR HUD (head-up display) is also not absent. The vehicle operating system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip.

Other configurations include 256-color ambient lights, which are distributed on central console, door trim, and other places throughout the cockpit.

US chip-making giant NVIDIA is expanding ties with several Chinese automakers, including BYD, as the race for the best software and features heats up. BYD will use NVIDIA’s Drive Thor to power its next-gen EV fleet.

NVIDIA announced the partnership with BYD during its GTC conference on Tuesday. Building upon its existing collaborations, BYD is going from the car to the cloud.

BYD will use NVIDIA’s Drive Thor for its next-gen EV fleet. In addition, the automaker will use NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure for cloud-based AI development and training. BYD will utilize NVIDIA’s Isaac and Omniverse platforms to enhance factory efficiency and retail setups.

NVIDIA unveiled DRIVE Thor, its next-gen super chip, at GTC 2022. The high-performance chip can run multiple functions, such as automated and assisted driving, parking, driver and passenger monitoring, in-vehicle infotainment, and a digital instrument cluster.

With new AI capabilities, Drive Thor unlocks advanced driver-assist systems with graphics support.

After introducing the new tech, NVIDIA CEO and founder Jensen Huang called DRIVE Thor “the superhero of centralized computing, with lightning-fast performance.” It delivers an “upgradeable, safe and secure software-defined supercomputer on wheels.”

According to local reports, BYD is advancing in-house ADAS tech, with new features expected to roll out by the end of the month. The EV leader is investing $14 billion (RMB 100 billion) to become a leader in intelligent driving.

BYD was not the only Chinese automaker to expand ties with NVIDIA. Hyper, a luxury brand owned by GAC AION, will use DRIVE Thor for its next-gen EVs starting in 2025.

XPENG also announced it will use the super chip as the “AI brain” for its upcoming EV fleets. NVIDIA’s tech will power the EV maker’s XNGP AI driving system to unlock autonomous driving, parking, and passenger monitoring, among other features.

BYD, HYPER, and XPENG join China’s ZEEKR and Li Auto, which already announced plans to use the tech for future EVs.

Most Nvidia engineers are Chinese. It's hardly an American company.

On March 21st, Xpeng announced the Wing Edition of the P7i, showcasing its exterior and interior upgrades. Building upon the foundation of the 702km long-range version, this new vehicle promises enhanced aesthetics and improved features. The car was originally introduced in November last year.

While the overall exterior design remains largely unchanged, the updated P7i Wing Edition introduces a few notable updates. One striking addition is the new scissor doors, which add a touch of high-end style to the vehicle’s profile. Furthermore, two new eye-catching colors, Starry Purple and Starry Blue, have been introduced, offering potential buyers more customization options. The new colors are further accentuated by including 19-inch all-black alloy wheels.
Regarding interior changes, the Xing P7i Wing Edition maintains a sleek design. The showcased model features a refined gray interior, while the red interior option is expected to make a comeback. The vehicle is equipped with Nappa leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. Additionally, it offers features such as a dual 50W wind-cooled wireless charging system, a simulated suede headliner, and a 257-color ambient lighting system. Furthermore, the car is anticipated to receive the latest MediaTek 5.0 system through an Over-the-Air (OTA) update, which is expected to be available between April and May.

Drawing inspiration from the P7i 702 Max version, the updated P7i Wing Edition is expected to feature a 276-horsepower electric motor (205 kW) with a peak torque of 440 Nm. It will be equipped with an 86.2 kWh battery pack, enabling a remarkable 702km electric range based on the CLTC test cycle (China’s standardized testing).

The Xpeng P7i Wing Edition is an impressive upgrade to a popular vehicle. Its scissor doors, new color options, and sporty alloy wheels haven’t affected the price as much as you would guess. According to the Xpeng website, the starting price is 30,900 USD, compared to the previous price of 30,800 USD.

The Zhidou Rainbow does come in a choice of seven colors but disappointingly, especially after the teaser poster, these colors do not appear to be the seven colors of the rainbow. Instead the car is going the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV Macaron route of offering pastel shades including pink, mauve, mint and sand (our names rather than the official ones). Also thanks to newly released pictures we now know what the interior looks like.

Unlike the Changan Lumin the Zhidou Rainbow sticks very much to the standard micro EV formula first popularized by the Wuling. Overall the design is quite cute and is a three door four seat car.
Y on the side shaped light clusters at the front and back make the new car quite distinctive compared to the competition. Interestingly the two tone paint extends from the roof down the A pillars but both the B and C pillars are blacked out. The tailgate opening is relatively large and there is a large rear window.


We now have some idea of what the new car looks like inside. The dashboard is more high tech looking than some of the competition with both an LCD instrument screen above the steering wheel and a floating touch screen. Underneath the central screen there appears to be some dials presumably for climate control. There is a very typical Mini EV like center compartment complete with rotating drive selector. Interior colors judging from the pink and white in the pictures follow on from the exterior color selected.

Length, width and height of the Zhidou Rainbow are 3224/1515/1630 mm, and the wheelbase is 2100 mm. This is quite a bit bigger than the Wuling or the Geely Panda Mini EV so obviously space will be one of the selling points of the Rainbow. Currently there are no pictures of the luggage space of the car, in the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV there is essentially none unless you fold down one of the rear seats. So far from the released pictures it is difficult to work out the situation with the Zhidou Rainbow. We can see, however, that there are cargo nets on the sides in the back and that the seats do fold down.
The Zhidou Rainbow will launch next month. The 20 kW electric motor version has a 17.18 kW battery giving a range of 201 km. For the 30 kW electric motor version range is 205 km thanks to the ever so slightly larger 17.3 kWh battery pack. Zhidou was once one of China’s leading EV producers but after suffering financial problems the company stopped producing cars. Recently the company was saved partly by Geely and the Rainbow is the comeback car.

As we predicted last week a newly upgraded version of the Tank 400 Hi4-T launched today. The 2024 version of the Tank 400 Hi4-T gains the new Miller cycle engine and intelligent vehicle-machine system as in the Tank 500 Hi4-T upgrade.

The key change is the new Great Wall Motor E20NB engine whereas the existing car has the E20NA. This new engine uses the Miller cycle, which increase the thermal efficiency. Maximum power of 185 kW and peak torque of 380 Nm are same as before. Thanks to the engine improvements fuel economy reduces to 8.8 l/100 km from 9.52 l/100 km in the 2023 version. Combined WLTC consumption is 2.06 l/100 km.
The E20NB engine used in the 2024 Tank 400 Hi4-T produces the same peak power and torque figures of 185 kW and 380 Nm respectively as the outgoing 2.0T engine. There is a 9-speed hybrid automatic transmission controlling the distribution of power. A front mounted electric motor provides 120 kW of power and 400 Nm of torque for a system combined level of 300 kW and 750 Nm.


The GWM Tank 400 Hi4-T is a PHEV using a 37.1 kWh battery pack along with the 2.0T engine which can both power the wheels and act as a generator and the upgrade does not change this basic configuration.
Visually the 2024 Tank 400 Hi4-T will remain unchanged. There is both a city version and off-road version. Surprisingly the off-road version is the cheaper at 285,800 yuan (39,550 USD) versus 289,800 (40,100USD) for the city version. Prices of the existing Tank 400 Hi4-T are 269,800 to 279,800 yuan (37,300 to 38,700 USD) and it is quite surprising that prices for the 2024 version are more expensive. The off-road version comes equipped with BorgWarner’s ESOF time-sharing all-wheel drive system to improve outdoor performance. Approach angle of the car is 33° while the departure angle is 30°, the minimum ground clearance is 224 mm, and the wading depth is 800 mm.

Inside the car has a 12.3-inch instrument screen and head-up display along with a centrally mounted 16.2-inch central display screen. The 2024 Tank 400 Hi4-T receive upgrades to the human machine interface. It is now version 1.4 which supports Huawei HiCar and ICCOA and DLNA connection features. Also added is a traffic light timing function, HUD off-road function and various navigation upgrades. The car has a four-tone voice recognition function.


The Tank 400 went on sale in 2023 and along with the PHEV Hi4-T version it is also available as an ICE powered by the same 2.0T engine. It is a relatively large body on frame SUV measuring in at 4985/1960/1900 mm (l/w/h) with a 2850 mm wheelbase.

On March 22, Zeekr released the official images of its upcoming MPV called MIX. The official reveal is expected to be at the Beijing Auto Show, which will start on April 25.

“MIX” means “fusion”, aiming at families, according to Zeekr.

The round design is similar to that of the Volkswagen ID.BUZZ, with dimensions of 4688/1995/1755 mm, and a 3008 mm wheelbase. Moreover, its design inspiration came from the Tiangong Space Station – China’s operational space station located in the low Earth orbit, according to the brand. Currently, two versions have been declared in China, with curb weights of 2739 kg and 2639 kg, respectively.

Additionally, the Zeekr MIX inherits the Hidden Energy design language and the ZEEKR STARGATE LED light panel on the front face. For reference, the Zeekr 007 model has an all-in-one 90-inch long smart light screen composed of 1,711 high-power LED lamp beads, with a maximum brightness of 10,000-nit.

Other features include a large panoramic sunroof and a suspended roof effect, no door handles, 19-inch multi-spoke rims (or 20-inch for the high-end model), a camera on the front fender, and an optional lidar to realize advanced driving assistance functionalities. The Zeekr MIX will also be available in two different seating layouts: the conventional 5-seater and a 3+3 6-seater.

At the same time, judging from the recently exposed spy photos, the driver side of the car is expected to use a traditional front door while the passenger side uses a sliding rear door.

Furthermore, the powertrain consists of a 310 kW electric motor model TZ235XYC01 and a ternary lithium battery pack supplied by the CATL-Geely joint venture. The top speed is 180 km/h. The specific capacity and range of the battery pack are still unknown.
Earlier, Dai Yong, deputy CFO of Geely, revealed an increase in Zeekr’s annual sales target to 230,000 vehicles by adding three new models to expand its market share and further overseas market expansion.

Today the 2024 all-wheel drive version of the Radar RD6 pickup truck opened for blind reservations, meaning the price and other key details have still yet to be teased. We do however now know a lot more about the pickup truck from Geely including that the 4WD version is known as the Radar Horizon and that the acceleration time is 4.5 seconds making it the fastest production pickup truck bar the Tesla Cybertruck.

Visually the new version is a little different from the rear-wheel drive version. Most noticeably RADAR is now written in large letter across what seems to be a more enclosed grille. On the back tailgate there is a more subtle 4WD badge. Dimensions remain unchanged at 5260,1900, 1880 mm (l/w/h), with a wheelbase of 3120 mm. The length, width and height of the cargo box are 1525, 1450, and 540 mm respectively giving 1200 liters of cargo space. A weak point of the rear-wheel drive version was the limited payload but this is now up at 865 kg.

Propelling the Radar Horizon RD6 is a dual high-performance permanent magnet synchronous electric drive system, with a peak total power of 315 kW and a peak torque of 594 Nm, enough to accelerate the pickup from 0 to 100 km/h in about 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 190 km/h. Wading depth is 815 mm and the no-load climbing degree can reach 95%, and the full-load climbing degree can reach 65%. Turning radius is just 3.5 meters. There is now a super external discharge function with can provide maximum power of 21 kW which allows the pickup to operate as a far more effective work tool providing on site electrical power.

The Radar Horizon RD6 has seven driving modes including off-road focussed ones and these can be switched using voice control. An intelligent all-terrain feedback system allows the pickup to adjust the torque distribution of all the four wheels.

Geely originally launched the rear-wheel drive version of the RD6 in 2022 and promised that the all-wheel drive version would be launched in 2023. It seems though that the longer wait might be worth it. Prices for the 2WD version are currently 145,800-268,800 (20,150 to 37,200 USD) yuan and we can expect prices for the all-wheel drive Horizon to carry a premium. Geely is already exporting the Radar and we can expect exports of the 4WD version as well.

On March 22, Aito announced that its high-end flagship M9 SUV received more than 60,000 firm orders 86 days after its launch in December last year. Earlier on February 29, the firm order quantity just reached the 50,000 unit mark.


The Aito M9 has a starting price of 469,800 yuan (65,000 USD), available in BEV and EREV versions, and in five exterior colors (including two solid colors and three dual-colors). The first batch delivery started on February 5th this year. Just two days ago, all Aito models received the latest OTA updates, including navigation cruise assist (NCA), lane centering control (LCC), autonomous valet parking (AVP), and over 15 other optimizations.
The vehicle measures 5230/1999/1800 mm, and the wheelbase is 3110 mm.

Additionally, under fast charging, the EREV model takes 30 minutes to replenish from 20% to 80%, while the EV model takes 15 minutes to replenish from 30% to 80%.

The cockpit adopts a triple screen design, including a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel, a 15.6-inch central control screen, and a 16-inch co-pilot entertainment screen, powered by the HarmonyOS 4.0.
Furthermore, the car is equipped with HUAWEI ADS® 2.0, which is realized via a lidar, three millimeter-wave radars, four anti-collision millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 11 high-definition cameras.


Aito is a joint venture between Huawei and Seres. Seres is responsible for the manufacturing and Huawei provides the full-stack intelligent vehicle solutions. In 2024, Aito has a sales target of 600,000 vehicles. In 2025, Aito also plans to release and mass-produce its M8 model.

Recently, the 2024 Denza N7 has arrived in 70 cities across China. The official launch will occur on April 1. As a facelift model, the new car has been adjusted in terms of appearance and intelligent configurations. An entry-level model has also been added, and the price is expected to drop further. For reference, the price range of the current Denza N7 is 301,800 – 379,800 yuan (42,000 – 53,100 USD).

The 2024 Denza N7 adopts a new “Xizi Blue” paint, and the front face is redesigned, in which the “dragon whisker”-like LED lights have been replaced with a slender horizontal design.

The rear adopts a through-type taillight design. The EV logo is added to the lower right corner.


From the side, the same body outline is retained and is equipped with multi-spoke rims and hidden door handles. All models come standard with a 1.93㎡ sunroof. Its size also remains unchanged, measuring 4860/1935/1602 mm, and the wheelbase is 2940 mm, positioned as a mid-sized SUV.

Inside, the cockpit has not been significantly adjusted. There is a 17.3-inch central control screen, a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel, a 10.25-inch co-pilot screen, and a 50-inch AR-HUD. In terms of intelligence, the cockpit is upgraded to the latest DiLink smart car system, which supports voice recognition, facial recognition, 5G network, in-car karaoke, and mobile app remote control. In addition, dozens of functions such as meditation mode, intelligent voice multi-car communication, itinerary assistant, and car encyclopedia have been added.
The 2024 Denza N7 will come with a digital rearview mirror and a 2-megapixel external camera located under the spoiler. The center console continues to provide two 50 W mobile phone wireless charging pads.

Additionally, the co-pilot seat supports 8-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, massage functions, and has a leg rest with a 0 – 70 degrees range. The rear passengers have access to a control screen, and the rear seats also support new functions such as electric backrest angle adjustment, ventilation, and massage.
Furthermore, the 2024 Denza N7 is available in single-motor rear-wheel and dual-motor four-wheel drives, including a new entry-level model. According to previous declaration information by the Chinese MIIT, the new entry-level model is powered by a 170 kW electric motor model TZ200XYS and has a top speed of 210 km/h.
For reference, the current single motor model is powered by a 230 kW/360 Nm electric motor, can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, and equipped with a 91.3 kWh Blade battery pack that offers a 702 km range (CLTC). The dual motor version is powered by 160 kW front and 230 kW rear motors, can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and equipped with a 91.3 kWh Blade battery pack that offers a 630 km range (CLTC).
Moreover, the 2024 Denza N7 supports a maximum charging power of 230 kW and the charging time for state of charging (SOC) above 80% is shortened by up to 40%, decreasing the charging time by 12 minutes.
