Chinese 6th Generation Aircraft News & Discussions

Usually I don't like - in fact I hate - AI-generated images and try to avoid them as much as possible, but this one is an exception: 😮

Based on the recently taken image this AI-work was created and IMO it is incredible.

So, in less than a year, we are already seeing the second prototype, interesting.

You have wrong concept of STEALTH, STEALTH DOESN'T MEAN TOTAL 100% INVISIBILITY TO ENEMY RADARS AND SENSORS BUT LO DESIGN IS THE RIGHT TERM (LOW OBSERVABLE) YOU CAN'T HIDE ANYTHING FROM SKY NO MATTER HOW STEALTH DESIGN IS AND HOW ADVANCED YOU DEVELOP RAM (RADAR ABSORBING MATERIALS) STEALTH JETS CAN BE DETECTED AT LONG RANGES USING RIGHT TECHNIQUE AND PROCEDURES
The keyword is "lock on". Without it, how would you use missiles?

louischeng is an idiot and often posts faked images like these as real ones!

China is in a rush of stealth jet proliferation. Maybe within a single generation, air combat would go back to dogfight with guns.
Considering how good and wide spread stealth is getting, dog fighting coming back is a very real possibility.

It's already happening, during internal exercise with both unmanned fighter and J20, without other assets and network, dogfight has already taken place according to credible big shrimps on the podcast.

Yep. It's why those Type A and Type B UADFs use WS-10 based engines. Wing sweep angle indicate supersonic performance and in fact intake design and sweep angles indicate >mach 2 performance.

Those heavy UADFs are almost F-16 sized and do not have any life support systems or space dedicated to such things and a pilot. They are essentially stealth fighters that carry similar internal payload to a F-35.

Since playing with Dark Sword UCAV program in the 2010s, it was realised that unmanned platforms could perform dogfighting when computing and autonomous tech allowed these machines to take on those roles. Dark Sword was never inducted like X-43B because computing and networking side did not allow for effective use outside of manned command like we see with Y-9 command aircraft and J-20S. Ground based signals for UADF operating 1000s of km away from ground command station results in a second or more of delay which is unsuitable for A2A.

Dogfighting by manned stealth aircraft absolutely is not a requirement. The purpose is to get autonomous smalls to heavies to do any potential merging.

J-36 and J-50 are more designed to sneak behind those frontlines or at least engage from flanking angles. J-20 and J-35 like F-35 and F-22 are more frontal VLO only and LO from most other angles. It's all a spectrum of advantage but none of these except F-22 are designed to truly do merge gunfight even if J-20 and J-35 can turn well, they are not intended as dogfighters. You still need to turn well to perform BVR well unless you can exploit next generation tailless ULO like J-36 and J-50.

There is a reason PLAAF didn't want guns on J-20 and J-35. Wasted space and weight for 99.9% of the time.

It has a full package of AESA radar, sensor, EOTS, DSI intake, DAS, basically a fighter jet without a pilot, so they can definitely pack more stuff in the cockpit area, can't wait to see how these elves reshaping the future aerial combat.
