Chinese 6th Generation Aircraft News & Discussions

It's pretty normal for him to say such things considering his position, he is a French navy pilot taking an interview from Indian media, we can't expect him to say, we are doomed, our aircraft is hopeless against 5th or even 6th gen, he would say the same thing for a pit against F22/F35 or NGAD.
But in reality there are limits on each aircraft, you can't indefinitely upgrading a fourth gen aircraft and hoping it is on par a stealthy plane, we knew that , he also knew that very well.
The issue isn’t that they will think their Rafale will exceed the 5th Gen or 6th Gen platforms, but that they should know that their Rafale is only on par with the 4th Gen jets they will face; I.e. nearly every fighter they will face from either Pakistan or China will be a more than a match, at least in BVR and EW, similar to how the Gripen punches above its weight with the Meteor and Arexis EW pod. The uncertainty in their minds will maintain that deterrent state, allowing both China and Pakistan to focus on other key national interests.

This will also put less pressure on Pakistan and China to have to deploy as many 5th Gen jets against India and can depend on 4th Gen platforms, saving costs for Pakistan and letting China deploy its 5th Gen jets elsewhere.

So the PL-21 and the best EW gear on all 4th jets is vital to this strategy.

(There is also the hype they have about the Brahmos, and a way to defeat that missile cheaply and with high probability, as well as having a deployed equivalent (all supersonic cruise missile) with greater capability (hypersonic with 800+km range) is another need to deter them as well, but that is a topic for another thread.)

Indian analysts are recommending purchasing more Rafales off the shelf or making them in India. The French themselves are trying to down play the new fighters as “only on paper”.

I suspect this is the route the Indians will go considering they are also looking down upon the Su-57 as unproven and still in development.

The way the French try to play up the capabilities of the Rafale are the meteor and the software refreshes every 2 years.

This is why I hope the PL-21E can be developed with a range exceeding 300 km (longer than the 250 km range of the meteor and 290 km range for the Astra Mk. 3, as claimed by India). Also why I hope the PAF procures the J-10 and J-35A, but in a visible way to show that BOTH these aircraft exceed the capabilities of the Rafale.

The PL-21E with that kind of range is one major Psychological way to deter India (and other nations), as well as win sales from Countries buying aircraft just because of the Meteor. A J-10 (or even JF-17) equipped with the PL-21E could form the bulk of offerings by China alongside a tip of the Spear option for J-35A and be a disruptive bid in a world of countries operating legacy aircraft and missiles.

The French can guess that ... while other can guess otherwise.

There were claims that 6 Qatar's Rafale were shotdown by Pakistan JF-17 during anatolian eagle exercise in Turkey in year 2021 with score 6:2. So if JF-17 can handle rafale, more over J-10C.

They can afford it over 2 decades and with 1000 orders the cost per plane will go down a lot than the few hundred NGADs USA will likely build. Remember they will have a “spear” NGAD and make a more cheaper and numerous “workhorse” aircraft.

SU-57 will be a lot inferior.

Better than wasting money on crap Rafales.

I think India will eventually procure Su-57 from Russia.

So China will offer PAF the J-50 in 10 - 15 years from now.

I am already immune to those game changer rants.

Rich coming from a country without even a fifth gen aircraft.PLARF has more hypersonic gliders than India's entire long range CM and BM arsenal. PLAAF has more AESA equipped fighters in a single base than the entirety of IAF. IAF has nothing with VLO or GaN AESA. PLA has more satellites in a single constellation than entirety of Indian military.

Do you have evidence to prove your viewpoint? Otherwise, keep quiet

Pardon, but if you claim, there is intelligent life on Venus its your duty to explain and prove your point and so here the same: If you tell it has a max. Speed of Mach 3 - which is ridiculous - and a range of x-thousand km, then you must proove!

Just ploughed through the thread to catch up on the developments. Incredible. Simply Incredible.

The US has decided to upgrade their F-22 raptor fleet.

So I don't think that NGAD will become a reality in the future.

There is no way they going to scrap the NGAD project, what other choices do they have?
Don't take Elon's tweet seriously.

They are going to spend a lot of money to reinstate/upgrade the F-22 raptor.

That is surely going to cannibalize all the budget for NGAD.
