The megacities of Chengdu and Chongqing in China remained under red heat alerts on Wednesday, the highest level in the country's colour-coded alert system, as large areas continued to endure a persistent heatwave.

Temperatures were predicted to reach 40 degrees Celsius or higher in several regions in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, and Chongqing Municipality, Xinhua news agency reported.

This marks the seventh consecutive day of red alerts in Chengdu and the eighth in Chongqing.

To help mitigate the impact of the intense heat, Chengdu has established over 2,100 service stations for outdoor workers. These stations offer free bottled water, first-aid medicines, and cooling kits containing items such as cooling arm sleeves and mosquito repellent for delivery drivers and sanitation workers.

Meanwhile, Chongqing, which remains on the highest heatstroke alert, has opened 140 cooling zones in metro stations. Additionally, shelter rooms equipped with air conditioning and other essential cooling supplies have been set up to accommodate outdoor personnel.

The red alert is the highest level in China's three-tier high-temperature alert system, followed by orange and yellow. A red alert is issued when temperatures are expected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius within 24 hours.

Extreme heat in China triggers power warnings, factory stoppages

Shopping centers and supermarkets turn off air conditioning during peak hours

Chinese local governments have begun restricting electric power to businesses in response to extreme heat, prompting some factories to halt production.

Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province in southwestern China, started issuing notices last weekend instructing companies to limit electricity use.

China’s Too Hot, No Power! 750,000 EV Owners Suffer, Queuing 10 Hours, Can’t Charge

The extreme heat has caused tight electricity supplies, leading to power restrictions in cities like Chengdu and Chongqing. This has affected industrial and commercial sectors, including the use of electric vehicle charging stations. As a result, 750,000 new energy vehicle owners are facing difficulties charging their cars.

I've lived in California pretty much my whole life. This past weekend I experienced the longest spell of heatwave in coastal California for the first time. Temperatures stayed around 110F/43C for five straight days.

China is not uniquely affected by global warming.

Funny, In Beijing now we wear long sleeves, pretty chilly already, many start to wear thick jackets, China is such a huge country.

The funny thing why it is worth posing here..weather reports?

No, it is actually about how Chinese EV owners can't charge their cars due to power cuts to public charging stations.

Apparently this charging issue must be so common it didn't even raise an eyebrow with you as you are wondering what is the big deal.

The pushed PDF narrative has always been how US electrical infrastructure supposedly can't handle EVs...

Because of some extreme weather? you must be desparate, trying to use some glitch casued by some extreme weather to represent general situation of a country. US doesn't have extreme weather caused issues? Man, You are so desparate to discredit China.

As if the US grid under normal load can't handle charging our EVs??? That's not the problem people are highlighting/talking about. It's when every house has it's air conditioning on at full blast and then has one or two cars charging. That's when the grid is some places is going to start tanking. Home HVAC systems use far more power than an EV plugged into a 120V home outlet.

Like the situation that is happening now in parts of China due to the heatwave.

We're all going to need petrol-powered generators as a back up.🤔

Lol, you are so desparate, over 50% of cars now sold in China are EVs, you can even see EVs everywhere in Tibet plateau, where did you get the idea that China's grid can't handle EVs?

Can you? You must have mistaken China for US.

Again you keep missing the point over and over and over and over.

I never said China has a grid problem under normal loads. I never said China has a charging infrastructure shortage.

Consumers don't lie, see why US is so far behind China in EVs, because charging is never a concern in China but a big headache in US.
US dilapidated infras concerns every sector of life.
