11th November 2024 – As the curtains rise on Airshow China 2024 in the bustling province of Guangdong, the spotlight turns to an extraordinary marvel of Chinese military ingenuity—the J-35A stealth fighter jet. This latest induction into the People’s Liberation Army Air Force not only highlights China’s growing strength in aerospace technology but also aligns with the nation’s broader strategy of integrated combat capabilities that promote national development and prosperity.

Developed by the Shenyang Aircraft Design Institute under the auspices of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), the J-35A is a testament to China’s ambitious vision in the domain of stealth and combat technology. Wang Yongqing, a chief expert at AVIC, elaborates that this aircraft is not merely a machine of war but a beacon of China’s advanced technological landscape, designed to meet the soaring demands of modern warfare where information and network integration take precedence.

The J-35A emerges as a medium-sized, multirole combatant with an emphasis on stealth, designed to elude radar detection while maintaining a formidable presence in the skies. It heralds a new era in aerial combat, equipped with capabilities that enhance its stealth, informatization, network integration, and intelligence. The technological strides include innovative measures that have propelled significant advancements across various aspects of its build and functionality.

China’s approach with the J-35A is characteristically futuristic. The jet is tailored to thrive in the evolving dynamics of global warfare, marked by rapid technological shifts and the increasing complexity of threats. It is crafted to dominate in information warfare, execute collaborative operations seamlessly across different domains, and serve as a tactical organizer on the battlefield. This strategic asset is designed to optimize and amplify the value of existing military assets, positioning it as a pivotal node in the network-centric warfare of tomorrow.

Wang highlights the dual capabilities of the J-35A in both stealth and counter-stealth operations. Its primary mission encompasses gaining and sustaining air superiority, neutralizing advanced fourth and fifth-generation fighter jets, and engaging hostile air defenses and aerial targets. This enables it to operate undetected, achieving unmatched battlefield awareness and disrupting conventional combat schemes.

Engagements with contemporary aircraft showcase the J-35A’s robust lethality and survivability. Through advanced coordinated tactics and rapid information relay, it establishes a decisive closed-loop kill chain, securing operational dominance swiftly. Furthermore, the J-35A is adept at orchestrating a network of combat elements, strengthening the systematic combat architecture it operates within.

Displayed prominently at the AVIC exhibition hall alongside its carrier-based variant, the J-35 series exemplifies the “one platform, multiple types” philosophy. This approach not only streamlines development and enhances the interchangeability of technology and tactics between variants but also significantly reduces costs. Such efficiencies are crucial as China aims to bolster its aerial defense forces and extend its reach and capabilities across different theaters of operation.

The design philosophy behind the J-35 series allows for “air-sea dual deployment,” facilitating seamless integration and operation across different branches of the military. This adaptability is key to fostering joint operational capabilities among China’s armed forces, enhancing interoperability and collective efficacy.

As China showcases the J-35A at Airshow China 2024, it does more than merely display a state-of-the-art fighter jet. It signals a profound shift in the global defense landscape, where technological supremacy intertwines with strategic military foresight. The J-35A not only enhances China’s defense capabilities but also serves as a catalyst for national development and prosperity, embodying the profound link between security and growth.

In the broader schema of international defense technology, the J-35A positions China at the vanguard of a new era in warfare, one where innovation, efficiency, and strategic foresight converge to redefine the contours of national power and security. This remarkable aircraft does not just fly; it soars as a symbol of China’s ascendancy and its unwavering commitment to safeguarding its skies while nurturing the prosperity of its people.

It was a good thing that PAF didn’t get onboard with the J31 when it was offered to Pakistan as an export product with PAF funding the R&D of the project(but with no real TOT).

Having sat on the sidelines, both PLAN/F have now fully funded the r&d to a viable product and now paf can used that saved money to buy more units of the plane.
How do you know Pakistan was not involved from the start? What do you think Project Azm was used as a cover for?

I've not seen it protruding out so much on any other fighter aircraft before.

Is there really a 30 mm fun being developed for the J-20? Which could then find its way on to the J-35?

Placement could be on top for the J-20, and in the wing for J-35, similar to how it is on the Rafale with its 30 mm cannon.

I know the philosophy for these planes is shoot and scoot but stealth may not allow that and having a gun (which I know some consider a dead weight) may seem useless, but it could still be necessary.

With increase thrust in future engines, WS-15 and WS-19, respectfully, the two planes could add 2d thrust and become very capable dog fighters, not by choice but if they find themselves in such situation.

Azm was a top cover for time wasting based on oversized egos...
Azm was merged with KAAN. KAAN will be our Azm project and when it comes to China dozens of things are quietly done without announcing them. So, if you are assuming that we are not participating in development of J-35 specially when are its main customer also the customer whose experience will help China sell it to other Muslim countries specially Arabs also. We would be part of it from very start of it.

CCTV reported today that the Chinese Air Force is accelerating the research and development of test flights for equipment such as the J35A, striving to achieve strategic transformation for the Chinese Air Force

I hate you bust your balls but J-35 will sell with or without PAF.

It will instantly be the best air supremacy fighter, bar the F-22 and J-20.

There is no PAF input into this whatsoever.
