According to some information, the test work of the J-35 series fighters is somewhat different from the test work of previous Chinese fighters.

The test pilots of the J-35 series fighters adopt a mixed mode, that is, the Air Force test pilots and the Navy test pilots are mixed together to form the test pilot team of the J-35 series fighters. This team will complete all the preliminary test flight work of the J-35. When the test flight work enters the tactical test stage, the Air Force and the Navy will conduct relevant tests separately.

The PLA used this mode during the test flight of the J-15. At that time, the PLAAF selected some elite test pilots to temporarily join the test pilot team of the PLA Navy.

The test pilot team is also responsible for compiling part of the pilot manual for this type of fighter and will participate in the training of the first batch of official pilots for this type of fighter.

The training and training of the ground crew team are separate for the Navy and the Air Force.

IMO both are the naval variant! If you look at the one left, its right tyre is slightly off-set to the main landing gear tyre almost exactly behind.

J35A is used in aggressor squadrons. Great for simulating F35

J35 family has 8t fuel. Similar range to original Su27.

J35 has flown off CV18, 1st stealth aircraft to have been EMAL catapulted. Expect footage to come out later this yr

A J-20 was seen for the first time in formation flying with two J-35A supporting claims, it has "entered the limited service with PLAAF in 2025, ahead of its naval counterpart" (via Huitong's CMA-Blog).
