Chinese Social media mixed response on one "nail house" which stops a $5.5 Bln government major project

In the UK the government has compulsory purchase orders, which legally forces owners to accept an offer.

It can be challenged in a UK court though.

The US has similar laws however the problem is instead of a single "nail" person demanding compensation it turns into entire "nail towns", "nail metros", or even "nail states" organizing causing a complete deadlock.

Highways in the US in the 1960's had to be rerouted around entire metro areas due to highly organized "nail" challenges. This is why straight HSR lines just aren't going to happen easily in the US without insane money being spent on land buyouts.

I m pretty sure that the same thing happens in many countries, but some brainwashed morons believe that whoever speaks against the government or doesn't follow the government instructions in China will be shot on the spot.

I wonder, why is she just asking for USD 30 million?

I'm her, I will ask USD 300 billion.

Many people in this world are idiots.... to secure a better life for the whole family.

And for democracy and freedom too.

Chinese social media says this "nai house" pushes the nail house conception to a whole new level, other nail houses only take up space in roads, but this one takes up half of a river water way. It was said that the owner of the house refuse to move no matter how much money the government offers them. Maybe the house has strong sentimental value to them?

Nail house causes multiple kilometers traffic jam everyday, all drivers honk their horns to protest when passing the house.

If one day, there will be a global disaster that will kill 99% of the world population.

And there's a place that can save the world, save everyone.

I'm going to buy that place and build a nail house on it.

I will demand money as much as possible, or if everyone unwillingly to pay, they all can die, 99% of the world population.

Well, this is human rights.

I'm a champion of democracy.

Or maybe they will kill you to save human civilization. This is survival of the mightiest.

If China were really a brutal dictatorship as western and Indian media portrayed, wide spread " nail house" phenomenon would've never happened in China.
Most people only look at things in black and white and only one system, democracy or dictatorship.

China, IMHO, is more like its previous ways, a dynasty, but instead of one family, it’s a meritocratic corporate system (similar to Japan and South Korea) that has to satisfy the desires of local and provincial elites to get its way.

For example, the future need to increase the manpower of the Chinese navy will come from greater incentives to not just individuals but regions to send their best for the sake of the nation. A return to mandatory conscription mixed with greater career prospects via the military will become a norm once again, as it has always been.

Serious reference and a fun reference:

Btw, would you say, China figures at some point these people will have to sell or they will lose township of the land eventually, therefore, the builders can comeback at the end.

How is the HSR project suppose to be finished? Will they go back and build over the home?

Nail houses are still relatively rare cases, not every major project in China encounters nail houses.

But when they happen, they can literally derail a project, pardon the pun.

Having said that, it’s good that people can’t be forced to sell just like that, within reason of course. Perhaps she’s just holding out for a big pay out and a visit from President Xi himself. At that point, it will be about face not to accept a reasonable deal.
