As a large-scale general-purpose unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platform independently developed in China, this model adopts the design philosophy of a "universal platform + modular mission payloads." Leveraging independent integration and technological innovation, it boasts core advantages such as high payload capacity, high service ceiling, wide speed range, and short takeoff and landing. With a length of 16.35 meters, a wingspan of 25 meters, a maximum takeoff weight of 16 tons, and a payload capacity of up to 6,000 kilograms, it can operate for up to 12 hours and achieve a ferry range of 7,000 kilometers. Its performance indicators rank among the top in similar products.

Through the exchange of modular mission payloads, the "Jiutian" UAV can be widely adapted to diverse civilian scenarios: it can undertake heavy cargo transportation and precision logistics delivery in remote mountainous areas and islands, rapidly restore communication and deliver disaster relief equipment in emergency rescue operations, and also provide services such as geographic mapping, disaster assessment, and mineral resource surveys.

The successful maiden flight marks a new breakthrough in China's large-scale UAV technology. The "Jiutian" UAV was designed by the First Aircraft Design and Research Institute of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China under the commission of Shaanxi Unmanned Equipment Technology Co., Ltd.

This is an official report from CCTV.

Interestingly, the official Chinese name for this UAV is "九天苍穹(Chinese Pinyin: Jiu Tian Cang Qiong)" Unmanned Aerial General Platform. ------ I honestly don't know how to correctly translate this name. I wonder if there are any top-notch translators who can handle this problem.

I suggest that foreign friends refer to it by the English name on its fuselage, namely "SS-UAV".

In the 1970s, China imported the RB.168 MK202 turbofan engine from the UK and began licensed production.

In 1999, the full indigenization plan for the MK202 engine was launched. Its Chinese name is "秦岭(Qinling)," and its code is WS-9.

In 2002, the JH-7 fighter jet equipped with the WS-9 engine successfully completed its maiden flight. All JH-7 series fighter jets still in service today use the WS-9 engine.

But did they also say this WS-9 is still in production? My impression so far was, that production has ended already long ago and these engines are "modified" ones formerly used by JH-7A!
