A police vehicle assigned to the security of a polio team in Khyber-Paktunkhwa's Tank was attacked by militants in the Gulda Khala area of the district on Thursday.

Police officials said the vehicle belonged to DSP Syed Marjan and all personnel remained safe in the attack.

In a separate encounter in K-P, three terrorists were killed by the police in retaliatory firing as the militants opened fire after being stopped at a checkpoint.

Police said the checkpoint was established after receiving a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the area. It was the same area from where Additional Sessions Judge Shakirullah Marwat was abducted earlier.

Nine hand grenades, AK-47 assault rifles, magazines, mobile phones, and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists' possession.

Landmine blast in Balochistan

Several people were injured in two landmine explosions in Balochistan in the Dukki district of the province.

According to the police, the first mine exploded on a track and the second exploded after people gathered at the spot. The injured were shifted to the nearest hospital for medical assistance and an investigation into the incident has been initiated.

Earlier, the District Health Authority (DHA) acquired the services of the police department to provide security to polio workers so that they accompany them in sensitive areas to administer drops to children during the seven-day anti-polio drive.

To implement the anti-polio campaign plan, 3,675 mobile teams, 330 fixed centres, 163 transit centres, and 245 UC MOs participated in the anti-polio drive.

Court slams CTD over 'misuse' of powers, unlawful arrests

CORRESPONDENT

An anti-terrorism court in Peshawar issued on Saturday a damning court order against the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) while issuing notices to the interior ministry, inspector general (IG) police, and CTD additional inspector general of Police (AIG).

The court order stated that the CTD made several arrests in multiple cases without evidence, adding that it has been "misusing" police power. The order also stated that the department's poor performance has damaged its credibility.

The court noted that despite recurring issues, there has been no improvement in the department's conduct.

"It is time to reassess the CTD's performance," the order maintained.

The court also issued an order in the case concerning Hammaduddin, a suspect who was arrested six years after the 2017 attack on the Agriculture Training Institute (ATI) hostel near Peshawar's University Road.

Despite his arrest, there is no evidence against Hammaduddin, and no suspicions were raised about his involvement. The court has declared his arrest illegal and ordered his immediate release.

On December 1, 2017, three militants entered the ATI hostel, killing nine people and injuring 37 including teachers, employees, and students of the institute. The attack was claimed by banned Tehreek Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Six students, the institute's gatekeeper, and two civilians were among the dead. One police officer, two soldiers, and a journalist were among the injured.
